A Dream Come True: Jason Parker Winslow Meets the President

Seychelles, May 19, 2026 — What was meant to be a simple day of photos and celebration turned into a life-changing moment for Jason Parker Winslow, a young advocate whose courage and determination continue to inspire a nation.

Jason, who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy—a progressive and incurable condition—was at the Office of the First Lady to mark the completion of a new accessibility project. As a passionate member of Ramp Up, Rise Up Association, Jason had played an important role in advocating for inclusive infrastructure.

Through collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, the project saw the construction of a new access ramp and a fully equipped disabled toilet, ensuring that elderly and disabled individuals can visit the office without barriers.

The initiative stands as a significant step toward greater inclusivity in Seychelles, particularly as the nation prepares to observe Global Accessibility Day on May 21, 2026.
But the day held a surprise far beyond expectations.

As black presidential vehicles approached with flashing lights, Jason—unaware of what was about to unfold—called out excitedly to his mother. Moments later, the President stepped out, turning what Jason thought would be just a visit unfold into an unforgettable encounter.

In a powerful and symbolic moment, Jason was invited to stand alongside (scissor lifted his wheelchair) the President to cut the ribbon, officially opening the new ramp. It was a gesture that highlighted not only Jason’s contribution to the project but also his role as a leading voice for accessibility in Seychelles.
The meeting carried even deeper meaning.

Jason had met the President years earlier when he was still able to walk. Meeting again under such different circumstances underscored both his journey and his resilience.

Despite his condition, Jason’s spirit remains unshaken. During their time together, he spoke confidently with the President, sharing his dreams and aspirations.

The President was notably impressed by Jason’s remarkable memory and his unique ability to navigate and describe places—a skill affectionately described as having a “built-in GPS.”
The President also acknowledged the importance of the work being done to promote accessibility in Seychelles, expressing support for continued efforts to make the country more inclusive—not only for Seychellois citizens but for visitors as well.

For Jason, the experience was pure joy.
Usually reluctant to dress formally—often pulling at collars and avoiding ties—he surprised everyone by happily wearing one throughout the event, fully immersed in the moment. As the visit came to an end, he was reluctant to leave, cherishing every second of what he described as one of the best days of his life.

For his family, it was a deeply emotional experience.

Watching their “brave warrior” sit and engage so comfortably with the nation’s leader was a powerful reminder of his strength and the impact of his advocacy.

This remarkable day will remain etched in memory—not only as a personal milestone for Jason Parker Winslow, but also as a moment that highlights the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and the power of community collaboration.

An extraordinary day, now forever part of a family’s treasured collection of memories—and a story that continues to inspire a nation.
