🌊🐟 Spotlight on Schulte’s Seafood at Seafood Asia Expo 🐟🌊
Meet Schulte Maetoloa, the mind behind Gizo Smoked Tuna. Though he's better known as the iconic singer and songwriter, Solid-T 🎶, in local circles, his smoked fish business venture resonates with the heartbeat of the Solomon Islands just as deeply.
Drawing inspiration from the unwavering dedication of rural fishers in the western region, Schulte introduced Gizo Smoked Tuna.

Potential fish ventures must learn about the industry and technology needed to produce a product. Learning, planning, testing, and evaluating are steps in the process of developing a successful product. Profit might not come instantly. Hard work might pay at the end.

Well-known Solomons singer and songwriter Solid-T, or more formally Schulte Maetoloa, has changed his tune: he's started a business processing and selling vacuum-packed smoked tuna. He buys from local fishers, and is selling locally at the moment. But his dream is to build the business and sell to the world. Ronald Toito'ona reports: https://bit.ly/Solomons-smoked-tuna

Due to the increasing climate challenges, food shortages and resource exploitations, we need to explore new ways to achieve sustainable growth. ‘Illegal Bech-De-Mer harvest caused by covid-19’ 23/06/2021

Our Ocean if manage well can be a great source of income for every Solomon Islander. According to Solomon Island government "The sea cucumber fishery is an important and one of the most valuable fisheries resources and trade commodities. In
Solomon Islands, it has been a major contributor to the livelihoods of rural coastal communities. Hatchery technology for sea cucumbers, particularly Holothuria scabra, is well established. Recently, MFMR through the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation (OFCF) of Japan project established a marine hatchery to research the biology of sea cucumber species Stichopus horrens, commonly known as the peanut fish. Through this research, the life cycle has been successfully closed and juveniles are produced and used for restocking. The prioritisation process
identified the sea cucumber as a commercial commodity and ranked its FEASIBILTY as MEDIUM with HIGH
POTENTIAL BENEFITS."

Besides the smoked tuna, we are adding more value to our yellowfin tuna, this time round it's bottled tuna!
Thank you FFA for the recognition and for inviting us to attend this very important training. Bottled tuna is a unique way of storing tuna for quite a number of months or even up to a year, in other words you can say 'food security' or simply adding more value to our most loved tuna and for some of us it will be another venture into business!😍👍

WHAT ARE THE SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT GOALS?

The 17 SDGs (sometimes called ‘The Global Goals’) is a collection of independent
but interconnected goals carefully designed to give all of us on our planet a better
future, with hundreds of targets and measurement indicators geared toward a
date of 2030. The goals were created with businesses in mind, providing a path
what some people refer to as a “Pathway for Humanity” — for any business to
harness their power by directing their efforts toward specific global objectives.

How might we protect, nurture and empower smaller/artisan fishing as a way to keep the oceans and seas sustainable and still provide the access of fish to consumers?

25/03/2021

Inshore (coastal) small-scale fisheries are an important source of food security and household income in the Solomon Islands. In rural areas, where most Solomon Islanders live, nearly half of all woment and 90% of men fish or collect aquatic resources for food and income Fishing, and collection, is done with a wide range of gears and techniques and the fisheries themselves are diverse and composed of multiple species.
Solomon Islands is part of the Coral Triangle region, a global centre for marine diversity that exemplifies the richness, uniqueness and beauty of the world’s coastal and marine environment. (Solomon Islands Government 2009).
