Successful Land Preparation on a Macadamia Farm 🌳🚜

In the last week of November, we prepared 3 hectares of land on a macadamia farm, including clearing, tilling, and ridging.

The field had real constraints ⚠️ Existing macadamia trees and irrigation pipelines made big tractors impractical.

Using our small-scale machine and trained operator, we completed the work within the existing layout, navigating tight rows without damaging trees and the water pipes. 🌱

This is where the right equipment matters. Efficient land preparation is possible even in difficult perennial land when the machine is matched to the field.

Diversity in Farming Mechanization (Part Two)

We also visited a macadamia farm practicing intercropping in Gashora. The farm combines perennial macadamia trees with seasonal crops. Large tractors cannot operate efficiently between trees and mixed crop rows.

This is where Cradle contributes. We deploy small, maneuverable machines that can:

We recently visited a macadamia seedling propagation farm. The farm uses a basic shelter to support seedling production. It offers limited environmental control, so operations are still manual. Temperature adjustment, irrigation, and moving seedlings between stages are all done by hand.

The result:
* High labor requirements
* Slow production cycles
* High operating costs

With a mechanized propagation system, this operation could:
* Increase seedling output by up to 3×
* Reduce operating costs by roughly 40%
* Free skilled labor to focus on planning, timing, and crop health

Last year, we attended the 18th National Agricultural Show in Kigali.
