What is DTP?
Desktop publishing, abbreviated DTP, is an English expression in the field of typography, which could be translated as "publishing with the help of a desktop computer". It is the process of creating and editing (modifying) a document with the help of a computer with the final goal of printing it.
There are 2 types of pages in desktop publishing (DTP): electronic pages and printable virtual pages, intended for printing. The printable virtual pages will be printed in the end and therefore will have parameters that coincide with international standards. The size, for example "A4", "letter" or atypical sizes intended for printing on large formats: posters, billboards, roll-ups, pop-ups, displays. Such a virtual page intended for printing has the predetermined size of the material on which it will be printed in the end, and its visualization is done on the monitor in WYSIWYG mode (what you see is what you get). Each printable page has a finite size and a printable area, in case printing with a cutting edge (bleed) is not possible, a situation encountered in the case of office prints. An example of an electronic page is a web page that is not conditioned by the parameters of a printable virtual page. Most electronic pages are dynamically resizable resulting in content modification/rearrangement.

Book design decisions you’ll have to make
Before considering what the book should look like you should make sure you are satisfied with the content.

Make sure you and your editor read it from top to bottom and make any adjustments to get it to the final version.

This will come in handy later in the process when you’ll thank yourself for doing this now.

Why? You might be wondering.

Well, in the process of designing the book’s layout there are several steps that mold and shape your book’s aspect and making changes to the manuscript after that point will affect the whole flow of the layout and might even mean it has to be done all over again, so it would take twice as much time and result in added costs.
