Manastirea Barsana este o manastire ortodoxa din Romania situata in comuna Barsana, judetul Maramures. Manastirea este situata la 22 km de sud-est de municipiul Sighetul Marmatiei, la iesirea din Barsana, spre podul Slatioarei. Biserica este situata in Maramuresul istoric, pe valea Izei.
Biserica este una din cele mai înalte din România, cu o înălțime de aproape 57m, tot aici găsindu-se și a două biserica din lemn care face parte din patrimonial Mondial. Puritatea peisajelor de la Bârsana este că un dar pentru ochi și suflet, că pelerin sau că simplu turist, frumusețea ți se așează de la sine în suflet.
“Bârsan” semnifică un cioban care își ține oile cu lână lungă și bogată, cuvântul devenind un prenume în timpurile medieval. Bârsana este una din cele mai mari comune din Maramureș și unul din cele mai importante sate de pe Valea Izei, numele venind de la fiul lui Stan Bârsan care a avut comună în proprietate, atestat în documente între anii 1326 și 1346. Construcția este din lemn, după tradiția locală având elemente specifice zonei: poartă maramureșeană, turnul cu clopotniță, capela, altarul etc.
În present Bârsana este una dintre destinațiile preferate ale turiștilor și pelerinilor din țară dar și din străînătate datorită bisericii de lemn a Mănăstirii Bârsana, această fiind una din cele mai frumoase din zona Maramureșului dar și a portului popular, a frumoaselor porți sculptate în stil maramureșeanși nu în ultimul rând a zonei culinare. Recent în incinta mănăstirii a fost construit și Muzeul acesteia.

The ranking was compiled based on insights from writers and journalists. The People’s Palace runs behind the Rocamadour Medieval monastery in France (2nd) and behind the Pantheon in Rome (1st).
