They said nothing remained there. But the house knew better.

It kept its secrets in the peeling walls, in the iron at the windows, in the stillness that settled between shadow and light. Even the vines seemed less like growth and more like memory, climbing back toward something they could not forget.

And there she was — in black, composed, almost unreal — not like a visitor, but like a memory the house had been holding for years. As if she already knew what the walls had seen.
