πŸ‘£The Ecofootprint Romania project successfully achieved its main goal of training teachers on the topic of ecological footprint and equipping them with the tools to familiarize and engage their students with environmental issues and protection 🌱.

Through the project, participants became more aware of how small changes in their current lifestyle can lead to active contributions toward the long-term protection of the Earth. By adopting more sustainable choices, they are now empowered to make a significant impact on the health of the ecosystem πŸ™ŒπŸ».

Here you can see 8 of the results we achieved during this project πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Sustainability Tip: Opt for Digital Carbon Offsetting via Your Search Engine ! 🌍

Did you know that some search engines like Ecosia or OceanHero actively contribute to environmental causes every time you search? Switch your default browser to one that funds tree-planting projects, ocean clean-ups, or renewable energy initiatives. It’s an easy, cost-free habit that turns everyday internet use into a force for sustainability.

This way, even your screen time can help fight climate change!

🌍 Positive climate progress in 2023: EU greenhouse gas emissions dropped to 37% below 1990 levels, signaling a return to a strong downward trend after slower progress during recent crises.

πŸ”‹ Renewable energy played a major role in this shift, now accounting for an estimated 24% of the EU's gross energy consumption, up from 10% in 2005. The energy sector saw massive cuts, with emissions halving since 2005.

🚧 However, challenges remain: sectors like transport and agriculture are lagging behind, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions to meet ambitious 2030 and 2050 targets set under the EU Climate Law.

πŸ“ˆ With clear policies, continued investment, and accelerated renewables, the EU is edging closer to climate neutrality.

SUSTAINABLE TIP ♻️

Shop smarter for a healthier planet! 🌍

Mindful consumption is about being intentional with purchases, prioritizing quality, sustainability, and longevity. Each purchase affects the planet, from production resources to waste, prompting us to reflect on our buying habits for a healthier environment.

πŸ› Mindful Consumption Tips:
Pause before you buy: Ask yourself if you really need it or will use it.
Choose quality over quantity: Invest in fewer, longer-lasting items.
Support ethical brands: Opt for sustainable, fair, and cruelty-free products.
Embrace minimalism: Reduce clutter by focusing on what adds real value to your life.

Mindful consumption isn’t just about reducing waste–it’s about making purchases that align with our values. 🌱

SUSTAINABLE TIP πŸ’‘

It is highly recommended to use and purchase products that are sustainable and good for your ecological foot- and handprints. However, you should always be vigilant! 🌍🌳

As the number of eco-friendly people grows, companies have become aware that there is a growing market for green products. But often instead of creating a product that is actually green or sustainable, they often use buzzwords to create the illusion of eco-friendliness This is what we call "greenwashing". πŸ’š

Some buzzwords to look out for (and avoid) are: biodegradable, net zero, plant based and recyclable. 🌍🌳

Double check everything before using and buying, so that our planet will actually become greener! πŸ’š

ECO VOCABULARY πŸ“š

We live in an age of information, in which we are constantly surrounded by advertisements. In such times, it becomes difficult to understand what information is real and what is fake. 🌍

This notion is especially true about adverts relating to ecology and sustainability, as many companies use buzzwords related to these topics to "greenwash" their image. 🌳

Does this mean that all ads mentioning sustainability are fake? No, of course not! Companies can actually promote eco-awareness through the notion of "goodvertising". This term (coined by Thomas Kolster, who was our guest at our event earlier this month) refers to advertising with the goal of bettering the world. Ads of goodvertising can highlight social issues, or sustainability among others to
promote within a brand. πŸ’š

Earlier this year, the European Commission and consumer authorities of the EU have led an investigation about potential greenwashing practices led by a number of popular European airlines. πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί

Within this investigation, they have found out that many actions of these airlines, which were labelled as "sustainable" have been false advertising. Most notably, it has been proven that neither requesting additional payment from travellers to offset their carbon usage, nor the usage of so-called "sustainable fuels" have not actually lowered the carbon footprints of these companies. ✈️

This is a very important investigation! It reminds us to always be vigilent and to only believe trusted sources when it comes to our sustainable practices. πŸ’š
