When I started creating art from textiles, it blew my mind to think that I could actually ‘paint’ using bits of fabric. All I wanted was to explore and push the boundaries of my own perception of art; Sustainability was probably the last thing on my mind.

This year, every piece of art I created was from fabric that would have ended in a landfill. The above image is a very tiny fraction of the scraps I have in hand; and I hope to turn these into something beautiful in the coming months.

Every year, we manage to squeeze in a quick last trip to the beach before we have to leave. This was taken on one such trip.
There, I take in as much of the sight as I can, and wonder if it will last me until next time - the sky, the sand, the sea and the shrieks of joy.

Those are whole spices, which are washed, dried, ground into homemade goodness and packed so we can savor the taste of home all year round. The girls love to potter around and help by shooing away the birds. While I love the smell of spices that lingers around for days during this process, this also subtly reminds me of the end of our vacation.

A lot of our vacation memories involve the beach, which is just a stone’s throw away from my home. In fact, on a quiet day unlittered by the ruckus of modern life, the breeze brings home the songs and smells of the ocean.

It’s been an eventful year for the world. So much has changed, perhaps irreversibly; and many of us have had to reevaluate our priorities. This year, love meant staying away, and we learnt we really don’t need as much as we thought we did.

As an artist, it’s been an unforgettable year. While many of my plans have been derailed, I know that all has gone exactly according to His plan.
Not much output to show for the year, as months went by uninspired, but I choose to look back at some of the special moments this year has gifted me.

2020 will forever be the year that marked some creative milestones and for that I feel truly blessed. I’ve met some amazing artists and art lovers; and made art that challenged every bit of my creative abilities.
