Sharq Crossing Project is back!
Construction of the Sharq Crossing, one of the most important infrastructure projects in Qatar, is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2020, according to the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). The Sharq Crossing, linking Ras Bu Abboud Street and the West Bay area, is considered a strategic hub for the main roads in the country. It is to consist of bridges spanning a total length of 12km above sea level and connecting to each other through an underwater tunnel of 1km.
The underwater tunnel, to be built under the navigation channel, will ensure smooth passage of ships over it.
Once the project is complete, motorists from Ras Bu Abboud will be able to reach the West Bay in about seven minutes. Sharq Crossing will also serve many vital areas, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums, such as the Ras Bu Abboud stadium and Lusail stadium.

Immigration bridge on Express Highway is closed for 1 month.
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced closure of the Immigration Bridge at Al Gharafa in the direction from North to South for one month. The closure is to allow the emergency maintenance work.
Ashghal, through a statement, has requested the motorists coming from north towards south of Doha to make use of the temporary traffic diversion on Al Gharafa interchange (Immigration interchange) or to use Sabah Al Ahmed Corridor or Al Jamaa Street as alternate routes.
Road users coming from Dukhan Road towards Khalifa Street (Al Markhiya) should use the Immigration Tunnel. Al Luqta residents, who are approaching east, can use Makkah Al Mokarama street and Omar bin Al Khattab tunnel as an alternative of Al Gharafa interchange (Immigration interchange) to avoid the temporary traffic diversion.
Madinat Khalifa North residents can use the bridge connecting Madinat Khalifa North with Al Ittihad Street if they approach Gharafa in order to avoid the traffic congestion which may be experienced at Al Gharrafa interchange.
Ashghal has also assured the structure of the bridge is safe and confirmed that the maintenance is limited to filling works and asphalt sub-base only.
Road signs advising motorists of the traffic change have been installed. Ashghal has requested road users to abide by the speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure safety.

New Al Khor - Doha Expressway is opened for public.
The Al Khor Road main carriageway will serve as an alternative to Al Shamal Road and allow road users coming from Al Khor to reach their desired destinations by saving the travel time by up to 65% compared to the same journey via Al Shamal Road.
The main carriageway was opened after completing upgrading works that transformed the old road into an expressway extending from Al Khor to Doha.
The new road layout will considerably upgrade the vehicular capacity from 8,000 to 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, improve traffic movement and enhance road safety.
The newly opened road is strategically linked with major expressways such as Al Majd Road, which will provide connectivity with several major highways and allow free-flowing navigation across the western and southern areas of Qatar.
In addition to being an alternative and parallel road to Al Shamal Road and the main link between the north and east of Qatar, Al Khor Road will create new demographic and urban areas extending along the east coast of Doha to Al Khor and Ras Laffan.
Al Khor Road is composed of 10 multi-level interchanges, six of which provide free flow connection to main roads such as Simaisma Road, Al Majd Road and Al Turfa Street and facilitate access to Al Shamal Road and Lusail Expressway. These interchanges comprise of eight bridges, 22 underpasses and a camel crossing to connect Lusail’s Reserves.
After having partially opened three interchanges on Al Khor Road in November 2018, Ashghal has now announced their full opening - Simaisma Interchange, Al Khor Road's intersection with Al Majd Road, and Al Khor Road's intersection with Al Turfa Street.
Located on the intersection of Al Khor Road with Simaisma Road, the Simaisma Interchange includes a main bridge, four loops and four right exits to provide free-flowing connectivity in all directions for road users coming from Al Shamal Road and Al Khor Road. It is considered the main access to the city of Simaisma and provides a direct link to the Umm Qarn area. It also serves several leisure facilities such as the Simaisma beach, Youth Centre and Resort.
Al Khor Road's intersection with Al Majd Road is a two-level interchange consisting of a main bridge that connects Lusail City with Al Majd Road and Al Shamal Road via the Al Mazrooah Interchange. It also includes four loops and four exits to connect Lusail City, Rawdat Al Hamama, Al Kheesa, Al Sakhama, Umm Slal and Al Mazrooah areas and facilitate access to several sports facilities and educational institutions such as Lusail Sports Complex and Community College of Qatar.
Besides its significant role in linking multiple residential areas, this interchange will make it easy for road users coming from Doha and Al Khor to reach Lusail and Al Bayt Stadium in record time to attend football matches at the 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums, Ashghal said.
The road will connect Al Khor with Doha in approximately 20 minutes, and it also involves the highest levels of road safety with its provision of five lanes in each direction, in addition to the fact that it is considered the most adequate alternative to Al Shamal Road. HE the Minister said the special design of Al Khor Road allows for the wide central median to accommodate the rail line, which would provide additional means of transportation to residents in the areas it traverses.
He also emphasised that during the construction phase, all future infrastructure construction projects were taken into consideration, especially telecommunications, in addition to rainwater and drainage systems without having to perform any additional excavation anew, highlighting the fact that this futuristic approach will be used in all State development projects.
HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie noted that Qatar has made outstanding achievements in the development of infrastructure projects, which have been delivered according to plan.
He said Al Khor Road provides access to multiple regions from the north to Doha, especially as it serves more than 20 residential areas such as Al Khor, Lusail and The Pearl-Qatar as well as areas located to the east of Al Shamal Road like Al Kheesa, Al Ebb and Leabaib. He also noted that Al Khor Road is a key factor in sustaining the east coast's development - creating new communities and a favourable environment for investments in real estate, industrial and many other sectors that will encourage people to settle along the surrounding areas of Al Khor Road.
Dr Saad bin Ahmed al-Mohannadi, president of Ashghal, expressed gratitude for the wise leadership whose vision and direction have been pivotal in delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure. He also expressed pride in opening Al Khor Road one year ahead of schedule and three years and a half before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, especially as it links Al Bayt Stadium with Lusail Stadium.NEW

Qatar has just unveiled a new project in Solidarity to Kuwait National Day.
“Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor” is the first in Qatar to be called the "Corridor" instead of a road due to its great importance and specifications of its unique construction, with the completion of the new Corridor in 2021 with a total works of 37 kilo meters, the road will have the first Cable-Stayed Bridge in Qatar as well as the largest intersection, longest bridge, deepest and longest bi-directional tunnel.
The road will increase the importance of the Corridor that will include the upgrade of seven (7) main roads by providing an alternative route to the busy 22 February street and a double traffic capacity, but also will link another traffic from the south of the country to the north via Doha By linking the Doha Expressway with the southern part of it (Al Wakra Bypass).
The new Corridor includes several multi-level interchanges, which will significantly relieve traffic on Doha Expressway, provide smooth traffic flow between south and north of Doha as well as reduce the travel time by up to 70%. It will also provide a direct connection to Hamad International Airport as well as a link to approximately 15 major expressways and ring roads to serve many economic, commercial, health and education facilities across Doha.
Overview of Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor
Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor will extend for approximately 25 kilometres from Hamad International Airport to Umm Lekhba Interchange (known as Landmark Interchange) on Doha Expressway. Its scope includes the upgrade of seven (7) main roads namely, E Ring, F Ring, Mesaimeer, Al Bustan, Bu Erayyen, Lebday and sections of Al Markhiya Street. In addition, Ashghal will enhance 12 kilometres of local and peripheral roads intersecting with the Corridor. The total road works of the project is approximately 37 kilometres.
The current road layout holds up to three (3) lanes in each direction, which will be upgraded to between four (4) and five (5) lanes in each direction. This expansion will accommodate approximately 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions on the Corridor while Doha Expressway currently accommodates 12,000 vehicles per hour, which will significantly improve traffic movements in the surrounding areas.
The project will convert all roundabouts to more efficient and safer signalised junctions as well as build and upgrade 17 interchanges. These interchanges will deliver 32 bridges and 12 vehicular underpasses to enhance connectivity and provide smooth traffic movements in addition to 12 pedestrian bridges.
65 kilometres of pedestrian and cycle paths along with 1.5 million square metre of landscaping will also be delivered as part of the project’s scope of works.
