QNB Asia Triathlon Cup kicked off today in Lusail city. Athletes from around the GCC participated in the race. With a grand price of 30,000 Qatari riyals. A triathlon is a race that consists of swimming, cycling then running. Women, men, and children all participated.

Today, we are sharing the story of one of our Triclub Members Alexandr, who is a true inspiration to all of us.

My name is Alexandr Ivanov, I am 47 years old, and I come from Russia. I moved to Qatar with my wife and daughter in 2015. In 1993, while I was in the army, I was blown up by a land mine and I lost both my arms.
In 2011 I became a Master of Sport in swimming for disabled people. After that, in 2013 I started cycling and later on I decided to embrace triathlon.
After I moved to Doha in 2015, I joined TriClub Doha and started competing in local races. In 2015 I completed my first 70.3 Ironman in Russia and repeated the effort in 2016.
I am a prize-winner of Russian and international swimming, cycling and triathlon competitions among disabled athletes.
At first, it was hard to find the motivation but then when I think of those who are less fortunate than me, those who are completely armless, legless or blind, those who are more disabled than me, I find the motivation. They do not give up; they practice sport and by their example, they show us that anything is possible!
Triathlon became part of my life. Thanks to the support of family, friends and relatives in competitions and in life it becomes really exciting!
Of course, I would like to explore my own limits, challenge myself and achieve more. This is why I am planning to complete a full Ironman distance in the future.

On 26th and 27th November, Qatar Triathlon Federation will host the QNB Asia Triathlon Cup, Doha 2021.

The Friday event is part of World Triathlon’s Continental Cup Series.

On Saturday, the public will have a chance to emulate the elite racers with a sprint distance event and youth run.

The stunning modern cityscape of Lusail Marina is the venue where athletes will compete with a swim around the Yacht Club, followed by cycling through the city, capped by a flat and fast run following the waterfront, past the twin swords of the new and iconic Katara Towers.

Come and make history with us and be part of another step forward for the sport in Qatar.
Support the National Team and your own countrymen who have travelled to Qatar to compete, then follow their footsteps over the same route.
