Our Story
Long, long ago, on an island far, far away.. Well, for most of us, it was a long time ago. Some of our staff members weren’t even born yet. This was pre-Internet times, when dinosaurs still roamed the earth..
All kidding aside, the hardware store was originally a cement building between two 40-foot containers. And it wasn’t just a hardware store. It was a catch-all store for all the merchandise that didn’t “fit” in the WCTC grocery/department store. And because WCTC was growing so fast, it also became the place to store all the materials for the WCTC project sites. It wasn’t until September 1985, that our unnamed hardware store officially became West Ace Hardware.
Over the years, West Ace Hardware has expanded from a 2,700 sq.ft warehouse to its present 17,500 sq.ft. This does not include the two warehouses (built 2012-13), the repair shop, fuel station, or the auto sales. It is still a catch-all store of sorts, selling everything from hardware to electronics to housewares.
What sets West Ace Hardware apart from other stores is its strong sense of family. Though its staff comes from all over the world (Palau, Philippines, USA, Nepal..), the employees genuinely seem to care for both each other and their customers. Customers are greeted by name or by honorifics, such as “Uncle” or “Auntie.” Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated.
