It was a pleasure to welcome Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Hon. Chris Bowen, to PICRC last week. During his visit, Minister Bowen toured the Palau Aquarium and learned about our coral heat tolerance experiments and clam aquaculture work.

Thank you, Minister, for taking the time to visit and engage with our research!

It’s been a busy time for tours at the Aquarium! 🐠🌊

We were thrilled to welcome students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for a special visit to our facility. With a strong interest in coral reef research and conservation, the group joined Aquarium Researcher Dan and Outreach Officer Nolan to dive into Palau’s vibrant coral ecosystems. 🤩

They also got a behind-the-scenes look at our current restoration and aquaculture projects, a great exchange of knowledge and ideas! ✨

Thanks for visiting, and we hope you enjoyed your time with us in Palau! 🇵🇼🪸

It was a pleasure to host the Koror State Scouts last Friday for a special tour of the Aquarium! 🐠🌿

As part of their lesson on Palauan Culture & Environment, the Scouts joined Aquarium Researcher Dan to explore the coastal habitats of Palau and learn about our clam aquaculture projects. 🪸

They asked some fantastic questions and showed a real curiosity for marine science and conservation! 🤩

Sulang for visiting — we hope you had a great time learning with us!

Farewell & Thank You, Simon! 👋🐠

Last Friday, we said goodbye to our incredible Aquarium Volunteer, Simon. ✨

Simon made the long journey from Germany in May and has been part of the Palau Aquarium team for just under three months. With a background in Biology, he quickly became an integral part of the crew, contributing to daily aquarium care, assisting with research projects like the coral and urchin spawning events, and even taking the initiative to run his own experiment! 🪸

His project explored how co-nurturing coral recruits with Cerith snails could boost their survival rates, a great example of curiosity and scientific drive in action. 💪

Thank you, Simon, for all your hard work & ideas! You'll be missed, and we wish you all the best in your future career! 🌊

👋 Yesterday, we said farewell to two amazing interns - Omakes and Iyechad from Xavier High School in Chuuk - who completed 40 hours with our Aquarium team as part of the Christian Community Service Project (CCSP)! 🌊🧪

During their time at PICRC, they got a behind-the-scenes look at the Aquarium, fed corals & fish, and learned about our ongoing coral restoration efforts. 🐠🌿🪸

We hope you both enjoyed your time with us — and thank you for choosing PICRC for your service!

📚🌊 Last Thursday, our Communication & Outreach Officer, Lucy Dickie, delivered two interactive science sessions as part of the Belau National Museum summer program!

Students explored reef and ocean sounds, dove into activities about reef fish and coral bleaching, and wrapped up with a fun aquarium scavenger hunt. 🐠🔍

With 26 students participating from a range of different schools, it was a great day of learning, discovery, and ocean appreciation! 🌎🪸

🐙 Breakfast Time for Buki the Octopus!

Meet Buki, our resident octopus at the Aquarium, named after Bukitang, the Palauan word for octopus. Octopuses are known for their incredible intelligence, camouflage skills, and problem-solving abilities, and Buki is no exception! 🧠✨

Did you know octopuses can change both the color and texture of their skin to blend in with rocks, coral, and sand? This makes them masters of disguise, until it’s feeding time! 🍽

Come visit the Aquarium and see if you can spot Buki hiding amongst the coral. 🦑🪸

🌀 Meet Kedarm — the Palau Nautilus (Nautilus belauensis)

We’ve noticed you’re curious — searching about why nautilus are considered living fossils, how they navigate the deep, and what makes them so unique. 🤔

Drifting through Palau’s deep waters, virtually unchanged for millions of years. By night, it rises toward the reef to scavenge, guided by its pinhole eyes and ancient instincts. 🤩

Rare, shy, and found only here, the Palau Nautilus offers a glimpse into Earth’s evolutionary past and the mysterious life of the deep sea. 🌊

✨ Come meet Kedarm at the Palau Aquarium!

🌍 Today is World Environment Day, and this year’s theme is all about collective action to .

Plastic pollution is a global issue, reaching even the most remote and pristine ecosystems, including the ocean environments we all depend on. 🎣

At the Palau Aquarium, we’re proud to inspire curiosity and connection to Palau’s unique marine life. Understanding our environment is the first step toward protecting it. 👊

🌊 Come explore the beauty and complexity of Palau’s coastal ecosystems, and be inspired to take action for a cleaner, healthier environment.

🔬 Incredible Sea Urchin Embryo Footage! 🌊✨

Last week, our aquarium researcher Dan was hard at work creating new life—Tripneustes gratilla, also known as the collector urchin!

An embryo is the first stage of life after fertilization. It undergoes rapid cell divisions, called cleavage, forming smaller cells known as blastomeres. The embryo then continues developing into a larva, and eventually into an adult sea urchin.

This process is crucial in shaping the earliest stages of sea urchin development.

Watch as life begins at the cellular level, a glimpse into the complexity of marine life, unfolding beyond the human eye. 🧬💙
