This team has been assembled for Lebuu’s Voyage, the name for the upcoming scientific research expedition to the Palau National Marine Sanctuary (PNMS), scheduled to start in late October. 🤩

Lebuu’s Voyage will be streamed live at www.NautilusLive.org, offering the public a front-row seat to these groundbreaking explorations. 🌏

Join us as we uncover the mysteries of the deep and celebrate the enduring spirit of Palauan exploration. 🦑

PICRC’s Communications and Outreach Officer, Lucy Dickie, recently visited our sister sanctuary—NOAA National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. 🛳🐋🌊

This visit strengthened the sister sanctuary agreement established in 2020 between the PNMS and the NMSAS. Despite being separated by thousands of miles, both sanctuaries face similar challenges, opportunities, and commitments in protecting ocean resources and preserving indigenous cultures.

For PICRC's 2025 Arts & Tides Calendar contest, we challenged students to showcase how they would explore the Palau National Marine Sanctuary. 🐋🦑With over 1700 artworks received, we had a record number of submissions and we loved seeing everyone's creativity and talent.

Congratulations to Odeuil Chin O. Taktai who was the overall winner. Her artwork will be featured on the front cover of the 2025 Arts & Tides Calendar, which will come out later this year!

You've got mail! ✉️📬 Our sister sanctuary education and outreach teams at National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa and Palau National Marine Sanctuary are facilitating a pen pal exchange program for students from American Samoa and Palau to share ocean stories and meet like-minded friends across the Pacific. Up next, students will get to share their excitement over the deep sea expeditions happening with Nautilus Live in American Samoa from August to September and in Palau from October to November!

We’ve launched a film challenge for students with our partners at the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary of American Samoa. Submissions are due October 18th. Get together a group and go check out your big blue backyard! There are some great prizes to be won! 🐳🦑🐙🐡

To all students from American Samoa and Palau, we want to see you share your ocean stories through film! 📱📷🎥🎞️ Create a short film (1-3 minutes long) about how the ocean helps your school/community, and how your school/community helps the ocean. The films can be in either Samoan, Palauan, or English.

Have you started your expedition sticker design yet? In collaboration with Nautilus Live, we’re running a Deep-Sea Expedition Sticker Art Contest and want you to design an expedition patch for E/V Nautilus’ visit to Palau National Marine Sanctuary! 🦑🐋🛳

The contest is open to all Palau’s students in Grades K-12. Check out the documents and submit your entry by September 6. We can’t wait to see your designs.🤩

Palau Expeditions Granted Name: Lebuu’s Voyage 21/07/2024

This October and November, two scientific expeditions led by Ocean Exploration Trust in partnership with NOAA Ocean Exploration aboard Exploration Vessel Nautilus Live will visit the Palau National Marine Sanctuary. The expeditions have been named Lebuu’s Voyage I (NA167) and Lebuu’s Voyage II (NA168).

Lebuu could be considered Palau’s first explorer and was one of the first Pacific Islanders to visit Great Britain. Introduced to the Western world in 1788 by the writings of George Keate, Lebuu was a young man from Koror, Palau who sailed alongside Europeans.
