We have exposed why theft of catalytic converters in vehicles is on the rise. Let's discuss how you can prevent theft and how you can know when it has been stolen from your car.
PRECAUTION
1. Park in a secure location: Choose a well-lit and populated area.
2. Install a catalytic converter lock: A steel shield or cage that covers the converter, making it harder to access.
3. Use a catalytic converter alarm: A device that sounds an alarm if someone tries to remove the converter.
4. Install a skid plate or protector: A metal plate that covers the underside of your car, making it harder to access the converter.
5. Keep your car in a garage: If possible, store your car in a locked garage to prevent access.
Remember, while these measures can help deter theft, they may not be foolproof. Always be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
HOW TO KNOW WHEN ITS STOLEN
1. Loud exhaust noise: A missing catalytic converter will cause a loud, roaring sound from the exhaust system when you rev or accelerate.
2. Rattling or vibration: If the converter is removed, you may feel vibrations or hear rattling sounds when starting or driving the car.
3. Reduced performance: A missing catalytic converter can cause a decrease in engine performance, power, and fuel efficiency.
4. Warning lights on the dashboard: Check for illuminated lights such as the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" lights. and have the car scab immediately.
5. Unusual exhaust smells: If you notice strong exhaust fumes or a sulfur-like smell, it could indicate a missing catalytic converter.
6. Visual inspection: Look for signs of tampering or removal, such as scratches, cuts, or missing heat shields.
If you suspect your catalytic converter has been stolen, have your car inspected by a mechanic as soon as possible.
THE CATALYST: What you should know.

we now understood the role it plays on our vehicle and environment at large. But why is the theft of this component so high? This is the reason..
Catalytic converter is made of very rare and valuable metals. Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium are the most common metals used in making a catalyst converter. So, with limited supply surrounded by numerous need for application these valuable metals are an attraction.
The picture below is what the metals looks like in the converter.
