Are you passionate about astronomy or physics and want to gain hands-on research experience? The Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy Sciences invites you to join the Summer Student Program 2026!

🔭 The program is offered in a hybrid format – you can work on your project on-site in Warsaw or fully online.
🏡 On-site participants may be offered accommodation in student dormitories (subject to availability).
📚 Duration: 4–6 weeks
👩‍🔬 Who can apply? Undergraduate students (years 2–4) in physics or astronomy (in exceptional cases, other students may also be considered).

💡 Projects are carried out under the supervision of CAMK researchers – details are arranged individually.

💡Mulheres Inovadoras 2026

No dia 23/3, acontece a premiação da edição de 2025 com a entrega dos troféus às primeiras colocadas de cada região do Brasil. Este ano a cerimônia ocorre no Finep Delas, um evento institucional que marca a celebração ao Dia Internacional da Mulher, promovendo letramento e reflexões dos nossos colaboradores sobre questões de gênero no ambiente de trabalho e na sociedade. Evento para convidadas com transmissão através do canal da Finep no Youtube.

A 7ª edição do Mulheres Inovadoras, programa promovido pela Finep em conjunto com o Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação, está com inscrições abertas. A iniciativa busca apoiar startups lideradas por mulheres ao oferecer aceleração com treinamento, mentoria individualizada e participação em banca com especialistas do mercado. O prazo final de inscrições no edital vai até o dia 4/5.

Nesta edição, serão selecionadas 10 startups de cada região do país, sendo 5 em estágio de validação e 5 em estágios mais avançados de tração e escala, somando 50 empresas, para 8,5 semanas de aceleração com uma equipe de mentores e palestrantes das iniciativas pública e privada. Ao final, todas se apresentarão para uma Banca de Avaliação Regional. Aquelas que cumprirem todo o processo de forma satisfatória receberão um prêmio de R$ 60 mil para usar em seu negócio, mas duas de cada região, sendo uma de cada estágio, serão escolhidas pela Banca para receber um prêmio diferenciado, no valor de R$ 120 mil.

Streszczenie
The Gaia Sausage-Enceladus (GSE) was the last major merger and central turning point in the Milky Way's story. This event, comparable in mass to the Large Magellanic Cloud today, left behind significant debris that provides valuable insights into the assembly history of our galaxy and the chemical evolution of dwarf galaxies. By examining the aftermath of the GSE merger, we can delve deeper into understanding how the Milky Way's formation unfolded and how dwarf galaxies evolved chemically. Specifically, the distinct patterns of neutron capture elements such as Eu and Ba, along with Mg, offer clues about the star formation history (SFH). Through a comprehensive analysis of data compiled in the SAGA database, we investigated the GSE's SFH. Elemental abundance ratios ([Eu/Mg], [Ba/Mg], and [Eu/Ba]) derived from this study, when compared with those of surviving Milky Way satellites, indicate that the GSE experienced a prolonged period of slow star formation, lasting over 2 Gyr, until it was eventually quenched by merging with the Milky Way. Consequently, these elemental signatures serve as a unique window into the complex history of both surviving and accreted satellites orbiting our galaxy.

🌌 Com a proximidade do Dia Internacional da Mulher, celebrado no próximo domingo (8), destacamos a trajetória da astrofísica brasileira Beatriz Barbuy, referência internacional nos estudos sobre evolução estelar e formação da nossa galáxia.

Professora do Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas da Universidade de São Paulo (IAG-USP), Barbuy pesquisa estrelas da região central da Via Láctea e contribuiu para a identificação de alguns dos objetos estelares mais antigos já registrados, fato que permitiu reconstituir a formação e a evolução química da galáxia.

É membro da Academia Brasileira de Ciências e da The World Academy of Sciences (Academia Mundial de Ciências). Em 2009, foi reconhecida pela Revista Época como uma das 100 personalidades brasileiras mais influentes do ano.
