It is a tradition dating back more than a century, thanks to which tourists and citizens can feel the Christmas spirit and enjoy wonderful moments together in this magic city. During the fair, visitors can see many attractions, taste local specialities, as well as buy Christmas decorations, handcrafts and watch concerts and performances.

"Arbeit macht frei" or "work makes free" is the inscription above the main gate at Auschwitz. The inscription was made on the orders of the Germans by Polish political prisoners who arrived at Auschwitz in one of the first transports at the turn of 1940-1941.
The inscription contains an inverted letter B. The prisoners intentionally reversed this letter as a manifestation of their insubordination to the SS men.
"Arbeit macht frei" is an inscription primarily associated with Auschwitz, but not everyone knows that the Germans first used such inscription over the entrance to the Dachau concentration camp.
