Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI&RC) has submitted evidence to Guinness World Records after claiming a record-breaking achievement of performing 10 liver transplants within 23 hours and 20 minutes.
According to reports, the surgeries were carried out by a 120-member surgical team and included a liver transplant for a nine-month-old child. Guinness World Records has requested medical records for verification, and a review team is expected to visit the institute following the submission process.
PKLI&RC officials stated that advanced procedures, including domino liver transplants and APOLT techniques, made it possible for nine children and one adult to receive transplants from only three donors. All patients have reportedly recovered and been discharged.
The achievement is being viewed by medical experts as a notable development in transplant medicine, demonstrating advances in organ utilisation and treatment options for rare metabolic diseases. If verified, it could further highlight Pakistan's growing capabilities in complex surgical care.
The verification process remains ongoing, and the final decision will depend on Guinness World Records' review of the submitted evidence.
