Punjab Government has introduced a major change in property laws through Stamp (Amendment) Ordinance 2026, making property transfers cheaper, safer, and more transparent.
Previously, people avoided legal transfers due to high costs and complicated procedures, especially in rural areas. This often led to informal deals and legal disputes.
Now, with the concept of Assignable Deed, property rights can be transferred more efficiently without going through full registration every time.
If the transfer happens within 12 months, only 1% stamp duty applies. After 12 months, it is 2%. This simplified structure removes confusion and reduces financial burden.
This reform will likely boost the real estate market, reduce litigation, and encourage documented transactions instead of risky informal deals.
For buyers and sellers, this means faster deals, lower costs, and better legal protection.
