The Shaista Ikramullah Human Rights Education Centre, funded by the European Union, under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Search for Justice, convened a briefing session on the Concluding Observations issued to Pakistan by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child following Pakistan’s 2026 CRC review.

The session brought together representatives from government departments, academia, human rights bodies, and civil society to reflect on key child rights challenges and implementation priorities in Pakistan.

The discussion highlighted that many recommendations continue to repeat across review cycles due to persistent gaps in implementation, coordination, monitoring, and accountability mechanisms. Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional coordination, follow-up systems, and human rights governance frameworks to advance the protection and realization of children’s rights in Pakistan.

The session also explored issues relating to violence against children, child labour, education, mental health, climate vulnerability, online safety, child justice, and the need for sustained implementation mechanisms at the federal and provincial levels.

بچوں کی ذہنی صحت کو نظر انداز کرنا اُن کی تعلیم، تحفظ، اعتماد اور مستقبل پر گہرے اثرات مرتب کر سکتا ہے۔ بہت سے بچے ذہنی دباؤ، خوف، تشدد، یا دیگر مشکلات کا سامنا خاموشی سے کرتے ہیں، مگر اُنہیں بروقت معاونت میسر نہیں ہوتی۔

اسکولوں اور مقامی کمیونٹیز میں مؤثر کونسلنگ سروسز، تربیت یافتہ سوشل ورکرز، اور ذہنی صحت کے ماہرین کی موجودگی بچوں کو بروقت مدد، رہنمائی، اور تحفظ فراہم کرنے میں اہم کردار ادا کر سکتی ہے۔

ہر بچے کو ذہنی صحت، تحفظ، اور معاونت تک رسائی حاصل ہونی چاہیے۔

اقوامِ متحدہ کی کمیٹی برائے حقوقِ اطفال نے پاکستان کو سفارش کی ہے کہ بچوں کے خلاف ہر قسم کے تشدد کی روک تھام اور مؤثر تحفظ کے لیے ایک جامع حکمتِ عملی کو حتمی شکل دی جائے اور مقامی سطح پر چائلڈ پروٹیکشن نظام کو مزید مضبوط بنایا جائے۔

بچوں کے تحفظ کے لیے صرف وقتی یا ردعمل پر مبنی اقدامات کافی نہیں ہوتے۔ مؤثر چائلڈ پروٹیکشن کے لیے مضبوط مقامی نظام، مربوط ادارہ جاتی ردعمل، اور بچوں تک بروقت رسائی رکھنے والے فعال ادارے ناگزیر ہیں۔

چائلڈ پروٹیکشن یونٹس اور مقامی تحفظی ڈھانچے کو مضبوط بنانا اس بات کے لیے ضروری ہے کہ خطرے سے دوچار بچوں کو بروقت تحفظ، معاونت، اور ضروری خدمات فراہم کی جا سکیں۔

بچوں کو تشدد سے پاک، محفوظ اور باوقار زندگی فراہم کرنا ریاست اور معاشرے دونوں کی مشترکہ ذمہ داری ہے۔

Search for Justice convened a one-day workshop in Lahore with civil society actors and young human rights defenders to explore how National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) can be engaged more effectively for accountability and protection.

A key outcome was a call for a Campus-Based Human Rights Ambassador Programme to help young people better understand their rights and engage with institutions.

Participants also emphasized the need for continued collaboration and practical action to strengthen engagement beyond the workshop.

یکم مئی — یومِ مزدور

ایک مزدور کی اجرت صرف اس کی محنت کی قیمت نہیں ہوتی—یہ اس کے بچوں کے مستقبل کا فیصلہ بھی کرتی ہے۔

کم از کم اجرت صرف ایک معاشی معاملہ نہیں—یہ ایک بنیادی حق ہے۔

جب حکومت کم از کم اجرت کا تعین تو کرتی ہے مگر اس پر مؤثر عملدرآمد نہیں ہوتا، تو یہ صرف مزدور کے ساتھ ناانصافی نہیں بلکہ پورے خاندان کے ساتھ ظلم ہے۔ اس ناانصافی کا سب سے بڑا بوجھ بچوں پر پڑتا ہے۔

حقیقت یہ ہے کہ غربت بچوں کو مزدوری میں دھکیلنے کی بڑی وجہ ہے۔ تحقیق سے بھی ظاہر ہوتا ہے کہ جب گھریلو آمدن میں بہتری آتی ہے تو بچوں کے مزدوری میں جانے کے امکانات کم ہو جاتے ہیں۔

اگر ہم واقعی چاہتے ہیں کہ بچے اسکول میں ہوں، نہ کہ کام پر، تو ہمیں صرف قوانین بنانے نہیں بلکہ کم از کم اجرت کے مکمل نفاذ کو یقینی بنانا ہوگا۔

منصفانہ اجرت مزدور کا حق ہے—اور بچوں کو مزدوری سے بچانے کی بنیاد بھی۔

Search for Justice invites applications from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) for a one-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening engagement with Pakistan’s National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs).

The workshop will focus on practical ways civil society actors can engage more effectively with national human rights mechanisms and contribute to stronger accountability and protection of rights.

Participants will take part in:
• A mandatory online introductory session
• A one-day in-person workshop in Lahore
• Post-workshop follow-up engagement

Participants will be selected based on relevance of work, motivation, and commitment to meaningful engagement with human rights institutions.
