QS World University Rankings 2026 نے پاکستان کے اعلیٰ تعلیمی نظام کے لیے ایک اہم چیلنج کو دوبارہ نمایاں کیا ہے: دنیا کی ٹاپ 350 جامعات میں کوئی بھی پاکستانی یونیورسٹی شامل نہیں ہو سکی۔

اگرچہ پاکستان کی جامعات باصلاحیت گریجویٹس، محققین اور علمی کام پیدا کر رہی ہیں، لیکن عالمی سطح پر مقابلہ اب صرف ڈگریوں یا طلبہ کی تعداد سے نہیں بلکہ تحقیقی معیار، عالمی سطح کے جرنلز میں اشاعت، حوالہ جات (Citations)، بین الاقوامی تعاون، فیکلٹی کا معیار، صنعت سے روابط اور جدت (Innovation) جیسے عوامل سے طے ہوتا ہے۔

QS 2026 میں پاکستان کی چند جامعات نے بہتری دکھائی، جیسے قائداعظم یونیورسٹی تقریباً 354 ویں اور نیشنل یونیورسٹی آف سائنسز اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی (NUST) تقریباً 371 ویں نمبر پر رہی، جو ظاہر کرتا ہے کہ پاکستان میں صلاحیت موجود ہے، لیکن عالمی سطح کی صفِ اول کی جامعات تک پہنچنے کے لیے مزید طویل المدتی حکمت عملی درکار ہے۔

یونیورسٹی رینکنگ صرف اعزاز کا معاملہ نہیں۔ مضبوط اعلیٰ تعلیمی نظام کا براہ راست تعلق معاشی ترقی، ٹیکنالوجی، تحقیق، اسٹارٹ اپس، صنعت کے مسائل کے حل اور عالمی علمی معیشت میں مقابلہ کرنے کی صلاحیت سے ہے۔

دنیا کی کامیاب جامعات نے تحقیق، جدت، صنعت کے ساتھ شراکت داری اور مسلسل سرمایہ کاری کے ذریعے ترقی حاصل کی ہے۔

پاکستان کے پاس باصلاحیت طلبہ اور محققین موجود ہیں۔ اصل سوال یہ ہے کہ ہم اپنی جامعات کو ایسے اداروں میں کیسے تبدیل کریں جو صرف تعلیم نہیں بلکہ علم، ٹیکنالوجی اور معاشی ترقی کے انجن بن سکیں۔

We are delighted to announce that the Punjab University Journal of Mathematics (PUJM) has been awarded a 0.9 Impact Factor in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 2025, released in 2026. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Punjab University and reflects the growing global recognition of Pakistan’s mathematical research.

The Journey Behind This Success

When Prof. Dr. Ghazala Akram assumed leadership of the Institute of Mathematics in 2025, PUJM faced a critical challenge. Due to publication delays in previous years and the lack of a structured publication management system, the journal had been temporarily delisted.

Determined to restore the journal’s standing, Prof. Dr. Ghazala Akram, together with Dr. Saima and Dr. Sumaira, initiated a comprehensive reform process that included:

✅ Migration of PUJM to the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, ensuring greater transparency and compliance with international publishing standards.

✅ Successful clearance of all pending publication backlogs from 2024 and 2024–25.

✅ Development of a structured editorial and review workflow to ensure timely, consistent, and high-quality publication of future issues.

These transformative efforts were strongly supported by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, whose visionary leadership and prompt approval of key proposals enabled the Institute to restore the journal’s continuity, compliance, and academic reputation.

A Well-Deserved Achievement

As a result of these strategic reforms and the unwavering dedication of the editorial team, PUJM successfully regained its momentum and visibility. The journal’s recent scholarly contributions received increased international recognition, culminating in the achievement of a 0.9 Impact Factor in JCR 2025.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Prof. Dr. Ghazala Akram, Dr. Saima, Dr. Sumaira, and the entire PUJM team for their exceptional commitment and hard work. We also acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the journal’s reviewers, whose rigorous evaluations continue to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence.
