Solana Mobile plans to launch a second smartphone as it looks to ride the unlikely success of its first crypto-ready smartphone, a person familiar with the matter said.
The upcoming phone will have the same basic features as its predecessor, called Saga: an onboard crypto wallet, custom Android software and a "dApp store" for crypto applications – but at a cheaper price point and with different hardware, the person said. The original phone cost $1000 when it first launched last year but later saw prices reduced amid struggling sales.
The new Solana Mobile phone could help tamp down what's become a red-hot secondary market for the severely limited supply of existing Saga smartphones. At press time a factory-sealed Saga device was catching bids at $3,200 on eBay, five times more than its price five weeks ago.

Web3 games shouldn't try to replace traditional gaming with decentralized gaming, but instead create crypto-powered alternatives gamers actually want to play, Web3 marketing expert Kelsey McGuire writes.

Web3 gaming has skyrocketed in popularity over the last three years and is predicted to reach approximately $65.7 billion by 2027, up from $4.6 billion in 2022. While the Web3 games that initially gained international attention were play-to-earn like Axie Infinity, gamers across the world don’t just game for passive income.
Instead, many gamers play because they enjoy it as a way to release stress and pass the time with friends and family. In short: games should be fun.
While play-to-earn has largely disrupted the blockchain industry and onboarded many users into the Web3 space, Web3 games need to transition away from this model and embrace a play and earn ethos that focuses on user experience first.

Mastercard has teamed up with MoonPay, a cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) payments app, to explore how the blockchain-based Web3 world can connect with and build loyalty among consumers, the companies said at the Money20/20 event in Las Vegas.
Card networks like Visa and Mastercard have been busy around Web3, working on areas as diverse as stablecoin-based payments and removing gas fees from Ethereum transactions. Most recently, Mastercard was revealed to be working with non-custodial wallet firms MetaMask and Ledger, according to a Web3 workshop presentation.
