The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815 near Waterloo, in present-day Belgium. It was fought between the French army led by Napoleon Bonaparte and the allied forces commanded by the Duke of Wellington of Britain, along with the Prussian army under Marshal Blücher. The battle ended in a decisive defeat for Napoleon, bringing an end to the Napoleonic Wars and his rule in Europe. A famous person who died during the battle was General Sir William Ponsonby, a notable British commander. Although Napoleon did not die in the battle, Waterloo marked his final downfall, and he was later exiled to Saint Helena.
