The Samar Island 🌊

This piece draws from the waters that breathe life into the island, weaving together its history, culture, and spirit into one powerful silhouette.

At the back, the energy of Catbalogan’s Manaragat Festival comes alive, a tribute to the fisherfolk whose lives are forever tied to the sea. Along the shoulders, a quiet echo of Homonhon Island marks the moment Samar stood at the crossroads of history.

The bodysuit embodies Bungansakit, the ethereal maiden of Basey—delicate, luminous, and mysterious. Crowning it all is a headdress inspired by Northern Samar’s Tugkad Diving, capturing the fearless leap into the unknown—bold, daring, and free. 🌊✨

I am aware of the current trends when it comes to silhouettes in gowns and costumes, and I tried to incorporate them because I know this style can truly capture people’s attention. However, as a designer who loves to explore while also considering the team’s vision (a bodysuit—something I am known for) and the strengths of the wearer (her beauty, body, and height), I take all of these into account.

The team wanted her to wear a n**e illusion bodysuit. A n**e illusion bodysuit limits the ability to create highly detailed designs, so the best option on my end was to focus on a large backpiece that can be fully appreciated on stage. I personally chose to create a grand silhouette with intricate details rather than a big costume with obvious elements adding a sense of curiosity.

To be honest, I was overwhelmed with ideas but I am very happy with the outcome.

“Daya han Kadagatan” — The Gilded Ibabaonon Pintados 🌊✨

A story woven in gold and ink.

This creation pays tribute to the Ibabaonon Pintados—the tattooed people of Eastern Samar, whose artistry was first chronicled by Pigafetta in 1521

Every bead and pattern tells a tale of valor and identity. The n**e illusion bodysuit becomes a living canvas of ancient tattoos, while the golden headdress, crowned with a galleon and oceanic motifs, mirrors the first meeting between our ancestors and the Spanish explorers

Flowing black hair adorned with golden leaves and flowers reflects divine femininity and the abundance of our shores.

Every detail is a whisper of history. A celebration of the unyielding spirit of the Ibabaonon, whose beauty and bravery remain timeless beneath the golden sun of Samar☀️💛
