Last May 3, 2026, in Sitio Mapasong, Barangay Sowangan, Quezon, Palawan, PROJECT SALIN was successfully implemented through a meaningful turnover ceremonyโmade possible by the collective efforts, trust, and unity of the community and its partners.
This initiative was led by the 4th Year Social Work Practitioners from Palawan State University โ Main Campusโ Janica Raine Sobrepeรฑa, Ciara Julia Dulay, Salvacion Esmaya, and Mia Maculaโ as part of their Field Instruction II: Community Organizing, in close collaboration with the people of Sitio Mapasong. At the heart of this project is a shared goal: to support childrenโs learning while preserving their language and cultural identity.
Through the collective efforts of the community and Social Work Practitioners, the translation flashcards (Tagalog to Palawโan and vice versa) were made possible, the project aims to make learning more inclusive and culturally relevant. These materials serve not only as tools for literacy but also as bridges that connect children to their roots. In addition, school supplies and learning materials donated by anonymous individuals were distributed to help address the immediate educational needs of the children.
One of the most meaningful highlights of the project is the community-built bookshelf, which stands as a symbol of unity and shared responsibility. Constructed through the efforts of the core group and the community, it reflects the true essence of community organizingโworking together, contributing collectively, and creating something sustainable for the benefit of all.
During the program, Kuya Andrew Sangkaan, the Core Group Leader, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the project. Maโam Saylin Sangkaan, the Day Care Worker, also shared her appreciation, highlighting that the initiative is a great help to the day care center and to the childrenโs learning. The ESOP / Agila Palawan team delivered an inspirational message for the children, encouraging them to value education and take pride in their cultural identity, while also expressing their gratitude for being one of the projectโs partners.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who became part of this journey:
To our partnersโBasa Batuta, Saribuhay, Agila Palawan / Eagle Scouts Organization of the Philippines, Boy Scouts of the Philippines โ Palawan Puerto Princesa City Council, and the Philippine Coast Guard;
To the Barangay Council of Barangay Sowangan;
To the Day Care Teacher, Core Group, and the entire community of Sitio Mapasong;
And to all who generously shared their resourcesโmaraming salamat po.
PROJECT SALIN is more than a projectโit is a reflection of what a community can achieve when people come together with a shared purpose. It shows that education becomes more meaningful when rooted in culture, and that lasting impact is built through collaboration and collective action.
โจ May this initiative remind us that real change begins when communities uniteโnurturing not only knowledge, but also identity, pride, and a future grounded in culture. ๐

From the last week of November to the third week of December 2025, the Tala-Aklatan Project underwent its implementation phase at the Stardust Child Development Center (SCDC) in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa City. This phase focused on partnership building, resource mobilization, material procurement, storybook development, and the construction of a child-friendly bookshelf.
Fundraising activities and in-kind support enabled the provision of age-appropriate books, learning materials, and essential resources, with structured market canvassing conducted to ensure quality and cost-efficiency. Two original childrenโs storybooksโโAng Batang Madungisโ and โSi Mako at ang Mahiwagang Puloโโwere developed to promote environmental awareness and responsible habits among young learners.
The phase concluded with the completion of a safe, colorful, and child-centered bookshelf through coordination with educators and community partners, highlighting the role of collaboration in strengthening early literacy and inclusive learning spaces.

Based on the community needs assessment of the social work practitioners, it was found that the center lacks reading materials and toys for 48 students. Most of the books they currently use are self-made by their Child Development Worker, and they also need a bookshelfโ which will serve as the storage for the new books and toys that will be provided through this project.
Through this project, we hope to bring more fun and colors to their learning!
๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐?
We are accepting donations of the following:
- Age-appropriate childrenโs books (storybooks, coloring books, basic Mathematics learning books for kids)
- Clean and gently used educational toys.
