I am speaking as a woman.
As a daughter.
As a mother.

Isang dalagita na naman ang nawalan ng buhay dito sa Toledo City. And every time I hear news like this, something inside me breaks.

Because that could have been someone’s daughter. Someone’s sister. Someone’s future.

Nakakatakot na lumabas. Nakakatakot magpalaki ng anak sa panahong parang mas pinoprotektahan pa ang karapatan ng mga kriminal kaysa sa mga inosente.

I believe in human rights. But I also believe that the first human rights we should protect are the rights of innocent people…the right of a young girl to walk home safely. The right of mothers to sleep peacefully at night. The right of families to feel secure in their own city.

This is why I understand why many supported the strong anti-drug campaign of Former President Rodrigo Duterte. It wasn’t about hatred. It was about fear… fear of losing our children, our safety, our peace.

Hindi ko sinasabing perpekto ang lahat ng nangyari noon. Pero malinaw ang pakiramdam ng marami…mas takot ang masasama.

Ngayon, parang tayo ang natatakot.

As a woman, I refuse to normalize this fear.

We can talk about policies. We can debate politics.
But at the end of the day, isang bata ang patay. Isang pamilya ang wasak.

And we deserve better.

We deserve a community where criminals are afraid to commit crimes… not where innocent girls are afraid to go outside.

I am grieving.
I am angry.
But more than anything, I am praying that we wake up before more lives are destroyed.

Because this is not about politics.
This is about protecting our children.
