The Central Luzon State University, through the Intellectual Property and Innovation Management Division, conducted a benchmarking visit to the University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos Technology Transfer and Business Development Office on April 23, 2026, to strengthen its initiatives in technology transfer, intellectual property management, and research commercialization.
The visit served as an opportunity for CLSU IPIMD to learn from the practices and experiences of UPLB TTBDO in supporting university-generated technologies, assisting researchers and inventors, and advancing pathways for technology transfer and commercialization. Through the engagement, the Division gained valuable insights into institutional mechanisms, operational strategies, and support systems that help translate research and innovation outputs into practical applications.
As CLSU continues to strengthen its innovation management ecosystem, the benchmarking activity supports IPIMDโs ongoing efforts to improve its services in intellectual property protection, technology evaluation, pre-commercialization support, and commercialization facilitation. These efforts are aligned with the Universityโs commitment to promote research utilization, industry engagement, and meaningful impact from CLSU-developed technologies.
CLSU IPIMD extends its appreciation to UPLB TTBDO for warmly accommodating the benchmarking visit and for generously sharing its knowledge, experiences, and best practices. The learnings from the activity will contribute to the Divisionโs continuing work toward a more responsive, strategic, and sustainable technology transfer system for the University.

Engr. Juderick P. Poblete of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Management Division (IPIMD), together with CLSU Technology Generator Dr. Danila Paragas, participated in the 2026 Agri-Innovator Program of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), held on April 13โ16, 2026 in Los Baรฑos, Laguna.
During the engagement, the DEALS nanobiopesticide, a CLSU-developed technology led by Dr. Paragas, was developed into an investor-ready technology package. IPIMD supported the effort by preparing the investor kit and presenting it during the final pitching session, translating the technology into a clear value proposition for potential partners. This was made possible by the availability of solid data and the maturity of the technology, enabling a grounded and credible market narrative.
The program brought together selected participants from universities across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, focusing on bridging the gap between technology generation and industry uptake through market validation, business development, and investor engagement.
Participation was secured through a full competitive training grant following a rigorous regional selection process. CLSU is a university consortium member of SEARCA, and this engagement reflects the Universityโs strong push toward commercialization to ensure broader adoption and real-world utilization of its technologies.

CLSUโs Intellectual Property and Innovation Management Division brought learning to life as we celebrated Intellectual Property Month 2026 with the theme โReady, Set, Innovate.โ
Through sports-inspired games and interactive challenges, students experienced a fun and dynamic environment that highlighted creativity, teamwork, and strategic thinking. The energy was high, participation was strong, and exciting prizes added to the thrill of every activity.
Beyond the games, the event deepened awareness of intellectual property, encouraging students to value their ideas and take steps to protect their creations.
A celebration of innovation and collaboration that made learning both meaningful and memorable. ๐โจ

As we close National Womenโs Month, we spotlight the power of women in science and innovation.
Today, we feature Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco and her work on a pine pollenโbased phytoandrogen developed as a redirection agent to influence the s*x of tilapia for aquaculture.
Her work reflects the depth of research and the pursuit of new knowledge in the field.
We end Womenโs Month by recognizing women who do not just lead but also shape what we continue to explore.

Intellectual Property (IP) protection was emphasized as a key component of responsible research during the seminar โEthical Research and AI Practices for Fisheries Integrity, Novelty, and Stewardship (ERAP-FINS)โ held on March 17, 2026 at the R&E Amphitheater.
Mr. Fredi Jan A. Francia of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Management Division (IPIMD) highlighted that research outputs must be protected alongside being developed. He explained that integrating IP early in the research process secures ownership, ensures recognition, and supports future utilization.
The seminar, organized by the CLSU-College of Fisheries Graduate Students Association in collaboration with the Federation of Graduate Students Association, CLSU Institute of Graduate Studies and the CLSU Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs gathered undergraduate and graduate students from the University and nearby institutions to discuss research integrity and the need to maintain originality in fisheries research.
In his talk, โBasics of Intellectual Property Rights in an AI World,โ Mr. Francia discussed the fundamentals of IP rights, stressing that proper documentation and registration protect creators and strengthen the value of research. He also noted that the IPIMD continues to support researchers through patent drafting, IP education, and intellectual asset management, helping translate research outputs into protected innovations.
