The Philippine Eye Research Institute (PERI), in celebration of its 59th founding anniversary on June 19, commemorated Dr. Geminiano T. de Ocampo, PERIโs founding director and the national scientist who was instrumental in establishing PERI as the countryโs premier eye research institute.
PERI paid a courtesy visit to Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School in Malolos, Bulacan, where Dr. de Ocampo spent his secondary education. PERI, led by its director Dr. Victor Arni DP Sicam, held a lecture covering Dr. de Ocampoโs life, and PERIโs background and societal contributions. He and PERI researchers also moderated an open forum with the students regarding future career opportunities in the field of ophthalmology.
PERIโs anniversary on June 19 coincides with the 163rd birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal, the nationโs national hero and one of the first Filipino ophthalmologists.
