In celebrating Mindanao Week of Peace, the third year Bachelor of Science in Development Communication and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology organized the 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗸: Indigenous People's Forum on December 3, 2025 at SPAMAST Lecture Hall. Ms. Emmie Pande of Municipal Tribal Affairs talked about how giving back to her Blaan cultural community made her feel fulfilled and Administrative Officer Mr. Ronie Liwantang shared his story how a young Tagakaulo boy dreamt of finishing his studies from his simple life in Brgy. Demoloc. Prof. Elizabeth Joy Quijano encouraged both the indigenous and non-indigenous youth to do whatever they can, in their own way to empower the cultural communities and that the core of peace and development is respect.

A talk show organized by the Bachelor of Science in Development Communication senior students to provide accurate, timely, and relevant information to mitigate, prevent and prepare for calamities and disasters in our local communities. Together with the Municipal Risk Reduction Management Office, local DRRM Officer, Jet Roy Diaz, let us explore the role of MDRRMO and what we can do to lessen the loss of life and property during disasters.

Southern Philippines Agribusiness and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST)-Bachelor of Science in Development Communication (BSDC) Assistant Professor Elizabeth Joy S. Quijano was one of the esteemed speakers during the National Youth Volunteers Summit 2025 on November 15 at Tagum City Cultural Center. 200 young Filipino volunteers gathered at the summit to gain more understanding on the true essence and relevance of volunteering. Asst. Prof. Quijano shared her experience on her personal journey as an indigenous people's advocate, pioneer of cultural community libraries, volunteer, writer, and educator. "In volunteering, there will be challenges, from your family, friends and even from yourself, but you need to be consistent by being self-aware with high sense of self-appraisal," Quijano said. The event was organized by Youth Service Philippines, supported by the Tagum City Local Government Unit.

Tagum City First District Congressman De Carlo L. Uy also gave his message for the young volunteers as well as Arnauld Peral, United Nations Resident Coordinator.

The Bachelor of Science in Development Communication 3rd year students of Communication Programs and Campaigns onboarded at SPAMAST Radio 96.7 as part of their course requirement and hands-on broadcasting laboratory. With the guidance of Prof. Joy Quijano, different topics were discussed by BSDC students including financial literacy among college students, social media use, typhoon preparedness and National Children's Month celebration. This promotes the relevance of radio in promoting advocacies and timely information. Radio technician, Mel John Marcelino also assisted the students in the activity. Job well done, everyone! 📻
