If you ask a Filipino making โฑ50,000 to โฑ80,000 a month if they are wealthy, they will usually say, "No, but I am comfortably middle class."
They have a car loan. They go to cafes on the weekend. They have a nice smartphone.
But from a macroeconomic perspective, the Philippine middle class is an absolute illusion. Why? Because true wealth isn't measured by your car; it is measured by your safety net.
Welcome to the terror of Out-of-Pocket Healthcare.
In first-world countries (like Canada or the UK), if you get cancer or have a massive stroke, the governmentโs universal healthcare system absorbs the multi-million dollar blow. You get sick, you get treated, and your bank account stays intact.
In the Philippines, an unexpected medical emergency is a financial death sentence.
If a parent suddenly needs a bypass surgery, or a child requires a month in the ICU, PhilHealth only covers a fraction of the cost. The family is suddenly slammed with a โฑ2 Million to โฑ5 Million hospital bill.
Because we lack comprehensive universal healthcare, the so-called "middle class" is instantly wiped out. They are forced to sell their cars, mortgage their family homes, max out their credit cards, and beg for donations online.
It takes ten years of hard work, overtime, and saving to build a middle-class life in the Philippines. And it takes exactly three weeks in a private hospital ICU to completely erase it, sending the entire family back into generational poverty.
You can change the trajectory of your familyโs future just by planning carefully and intentionally...

A few years ago, someone close to me was diagnosed with cancer.
They had an HMO.
We thought, โThat should be enough.โ
But after just a few sessions, it was maxed out.
And thatโs when the bills started piling up.
PET scans. Maintenance meds. Missed work. Transport. Nutrition.
All out of pocket. All from savings.

Once diagnosed, you get a lump sum.
โ
No receipts.
โ
No questions.
โ
No debt.
Use it for treatment. Use it for recovery. Use it for peace of mind.

No one gets approved for insurance after a diagnosis.
By then, itโs too late.
Thatโs why while youโre still healthyโฆ protect yourself.
Before the illness comes.
Before the bills do.
HMO is good.
But itโs not enough.
For everything you value... choose AXA!

Mas importante pa rin ang tiwala mo sa taong nag-aadvise saโyo. ๐ฏ
Kahit gaano kalaki o ka-sikat ang insurance company, if hindi mo ramdam ang sincerity, transparency, at malasakit ng financial advisor mo โ mahirap mag-commit.
Life insurance is a long-term commitment. Hindi ito one-time transaction. Itโs a relationship.
โ๏ธ May magre-remind saโyo ng due dates
โ๏ธ May mag-eexplain ng policy mo in simple terms
โ๏ธ May sasagot saโyo kapag may claims or concerns
โ๏ธ May tutulong mag-adjust ng plan kapag nagbago ang goals mo
At the end of the day, hindi ka naman diretso sa โrankingโ lalapit kapag may kailangan ka. Sa advisor mo pa rin.
So before asking, โAno bang #1 insurance company ngayon?โ
Maybe ask first, โMapagkakatiwalaan ko ba itong advisor na ito for the next 10โ20 years?โ
Because confidence in your advisorโs integrity > company ranking.
Choose wisely. Choose someone who genuinely puts your familyโs protection first. ๐

Bakit pag kotse ang hanap natin parati yung top of the line? Pag gadgets yun high-end. Pero pag insurance, ang madalas na tanong, magkano ang minimum?
It's not enough na insured lang tayo. Dapat sapat! Mas okay nga kung sobra pa sa sapat! Ito yun tips on how to get adequately insured:
1) Set a meeting with an Insurance Advisor. Ask for a Financial Needs Analysis. It's not enough na magbabase lang tayo sa sample proposal. Unless alam mo na kung magkano ang need mo na insurance or yun nalang talaga kailangan mo to supplement whatever you have.
.. wag niyo din tanungin lahat sa text. Set a call or an online meeting. Mahirap sagutin lahat ng mga tanong via text. May mga bagay na mas maganda pag ini-explain ng personal or via zoom or call. ๐
2) By getting adequately insured, it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll get all the insurance coverage you need all at once. Pwedeng smaller amount muna or depende sa budget. Para at least you know your numbers and you know how much you really need. Then unti-unti mo nalang dagdagan at kumpletuhin.
3) And... know your reasons in getting an insurance:
โ
For your family, to protect your income. Para may maiwan kang amount for them in case
something happens to you as a breadwinner.
โ
For critical illness. In case you get a major illness, meron kang fund for that.
โ
For your kids, para no matter what happens, your kids can still go to college, or at least para di mahirapan yun spouse mo to fund for your kids' tuition fee.
โ
For estate tax. Life insurance can be used to pay for estate taxes of all your assets.
โ
To create an estate or pamana. Para may maiwan kang kayamaman sa mga anak mo.
โ
Or for final expenses. Pwedeng magamit ang insurance for funeral expenses. Pambayad sa last bill sa hospital, or sa mga nautang ng family for health expenses.
.. And a lot more reasons...
Just remember this:
One of the BEST GIFTS you could give to your family is a LIFE INSURANCE protection. Getting a little insurance coverage is better than having no coverage at all.
And... Not saving and investing early when we are still young, and not getting insurance when we are still healthy, are the most common financial regrets when time is no longer our ally.
Happy Investing! ๐

Life insurance is not about predicting tragedy.
Itโs about refusing to let tragedy erase your familyโs progress.
Protection is not an expense.
It is a responsibility โ and an act of love.

The Confidence of Being Prepared
At AXA, the philosophy is simple:
When you prepare today, you gain confidence for tomorrow.
If the unexpected happens:
Your family wonโt be forced to sell assets.
Your childrenโs education wonโt be interrupted.
Your spouse wonโt need to start over financially.
Your legacy remains intact.
Thatโs what it means to say:
Know You Can.
You can face uncertainty with strength.
You can protect your familyโs future.
You can move forward with confidence.

Understanding the Components (The Right Way)
Some AXA plans include investment-linked features, such as Variable Unit-Linked (VUL) policies.
These allow part of your premium to be invested in professionally managed funds.
But itโs important to understand:
Your protection coverage is the foundation.
The fund value supports the policy and offers growth potential.
Withdrawals affect long-term sustainability.
The investment component is a feature โ not the main purpose.
Protection remains the priority.

Why Protection Matters More Than Growth
We save for expected milestones:
A wedding
A new home
College tuition
But no one saves fast enough for:
A โฑ1M hospital bill
Sudden funeral expenses
Years of lost income
Even disciplined savers can see years of hard work wiped out in months.
A properly structured life insurance plan provides an immediate financial safety net โ a lump sum that protects:
Daily living expenses
Education plans
Outstanding debts
Long-term goals
It preserves dignity and stability during the hardest season of life.
