Things that can happen when you get your piercing done📍

After getting a new piercing, it's normal to experience mild bleeding, swelling, redness, tenderness, and some itching. It’s also common to see a whitish-yellow crust form around the jewelry, which is a normal part of the healing process and not pus. Pay attention to your body, as other symptoms like thick yellow-green pus, increased pain, or warmth could indicate an infection.

Common and normal symptoms
* Slight bleeding: You may have minor bleeding immediately after the piercing or if you accidentally bump or snag it later.
* Swelling and redness: Some swelling and redness is expected for the first few days as the skin heals.
* Tenderness and discomfort: The area will be sensitive and may feel uncomfortable as it heals.
* Itching: This is a normal sign that the piercing is healing.
* Crusty discharge: A clear or whitish-yellow fluid that dries into a crust on the jewelry is a normal part of healing, not pus.
* Bruising: A small bruise may appear if a tiny blood vessel is nicked during the piercing.
* Small bumps: A small lump, known as a granuloma, can sometimes form around cartilage piercings. Applying a warm compress can help.

When to seek medical advice
* Signs of infection: Contact a healthcare professional if you see thick, yellow-green pus, the redness and swelling get worse or expand, or you feel warmth coming from the area.
* Increasing pain: While initial discomfort is normal, a worsening pain is a sign something is wrong.
* Fever: A fever or feeling generally unwell can be a sign of a more serious infection.
* Severe swelling: If the swelling is so severe that the jewelry is "sinking" into the skin, you may need a larger post and should see a professional.
