NSB Orientation and Profiling
March 8-11, 2022 I Calanasan, Apayao

DTI-Apayao pursues its commitment for the realization of inclusive growth in the different barangays of the province of Apayao. Now, reached the four (4) far flung barangays (Cadaclan, Macalino, Langnao & Sta. Elena) of the municipality of Calanasan, Apayao

The five (5)-hour travel by a make-shift motor boat, under the rain and cold weather did not hinder the DTI-Apayao team to disseminate information on their programs and services to barangays Cadaclan and Macalino.

Business cliniquing and profiling were likewise conducted by the DTI Team to the twenty (20) selected MSME beneficiaries from the four barangays under the Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) Program of DTI.

Present during the said activities were the Punong Barangays and officials from the identified barangays and representatives from the Business Permit and Licensing Office of LGU-Calanasan.

2022 Regional Cacao Council Meeting | March 8, 2022

DTI Apayao led by OIC-PD Wena M. Buston together with OAS Representative Jeffrey Bartolome, and 3 Cacao Stakeholders in Apayao - Mr. Rolando Razalan and Ms. Glocelyn Edra of Golden Cacao Farmers Association, and Ms Marivic Aguirre of Young Entrepreneurs Association of Apayao, actively participated in the said meeting.

The meeting aims to:
✔️ present the salient points of the Updated National Cacao Industry Roadmap 2022-2028
✔️ localize the Updated National Cacao Roadmap and come up with Regional Work and Financial Plans
✔️ elect new set of Private Sector Representatives both for the Regional Chairperson and the provincial representatives

Among the members of the newly elected Regional Council were Mr. Rodolfo Cortel of Conner Cacao Growers and Nursery Operators Association as Vice-Chairperson for Private Sector and Mr. Rolando Razalan as Apayao Private Sector Representative.

March 9, 2022 | DTI Apayao Installs New CWD Signages at Conner, Apayao

The DTI Apayao through its Consumer Protection Division (CPD) installed new signages for the established Consumer Welfare Desk in Business Establishments (CWDs in BEs) on March 8, 2022 in all nine (9) business establishments at Conner, Apayao. The presence of a CWD in BEs provides an avenue where consumers can easily lodge their consumer complaints and get speedy redress directly from the participating business establishment without the need for filing at the nearest office of the Department of Trade and Industry.

Five (5) of the 9 CWDs in Conner are already Bagwis Awardees. The Bagwis Awardees are business establishments recognized for upholding the rights of consumers and practice responsible business where consumers indeed get value for money. Among the requirements for being a Bagwis Awardee is the setting up of a sustainable CWD or a DTI recognized customer service center that will provide information to consumers and serves as mechanism for speedy resolution of consumer complaint.

The Bagwis awardees in Conner are:
 Conner Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Silver Category)
 Begay’s Enterprises (Bronze Category)
 Jo-Bing Santiago General Merchandise (Bronze)
 K N E General Merchandise (Bronze)
 Moyaen Enterprises (Bronze)

March 9, 2022 | DTI Apayao Monitors Business Establishments at Conner, Apayao

The DTI Apayao Monitoring and Enforcement Team led by Trade and Industry Development Specialist Melanie D. Batara conducted monitoring of business establishments at Conner, Apayao on March 8, 2022. Among the monitored establishments were business establishments with Consumer Welfare Desk, Bagwis Awardees, hardware stores and various sari-sari stores. The monitored establishments were found compliant to the various Fair Trade Laws like Business Name Registration, Product Standards Law, Price Tags and certain provisions of the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

March 8, 2022 | Luna, Apayao – DTI APAYAO JOINS THE FIRE PREVENTION MONTH CELEBRATION

DTI Apayao joins the nation in the celebration of the Fire Prevention Month 2022 with the theme: Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog Hindi Ka Nag-iisa. DTI Apayao OIC for Consumer Protection Division, Gabriel L. Dulnuan Jr., shared some Fire Prevention Measures during the DTI Radio Program, "Usapang Negosyo at Mamili", on March 8, 2022 at the DZNQ-FM based at Luna, Apayao to ensure fire prevention in the households.

Among the Fire Prevention Measures discussed were:

 Proper installation and maintenance of electrical connections;
 Avoiding the use of metal items like staples or nails to fasten electric cords;
 Proper maintenance of electric cords;
 Proper use, storage, and maintenance of all electrical appliances;
 Unplugging of electrical appliances after use;
 Proper connection and maintenance of gas stoves and LPG tanks;
 Keeping flammable liquids, matches, and lighters out of children’s reach;
 Avoiding smoking indoors and making sure that cigarette butts are fully extinguished when discarding them;
 Making sure that lighted candles and mosquito coils are never left unattended;
 Obeying of “no smoking” signs;
 Installation and maintenance of fire detection and prevention devices;
 Securing an appropriate and effective fire extinguisher for your home, which should be DTI- certified;
 Proper storage of flammable items;
 Keeping flammable objects away from stoves and other heating devices; and
 Observing vigilance when cooking

March 8, 2022 | Luna, Apayao – ALARCI JOINS THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION

The Association of Luna, Apayao Retirees and Consumers, Inc. (ALARCI) joined the March 8, 2022 International Women’s Day Talk Show on Gender and Consumer Protection in ASEAN conducted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The activity discussion focused on the gender and consumer protection which traditionally center around the role of women in the household. Interesting topics include:

1. Are women really "in charge" of making decisions for the household?
2. What about the role of husbands or men in general at home, especially in a changing society?
3. Do women and men equally have the right to be treated without discrimination for the goods/services they purchase?

At present, ALARCI is a recognized Consumer Organization in the Province of Apayao based at Poblacion, Luna, Apayao. ALARCI President Purita C. Visitacion and Vice President for External Affairs Visitacion B. Ballesteros attended the said activity via zoom.

ALL IN! Despite the odds, nine (9) participating entries from CAR for the 2022 Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) have been prepared, assessed, and received at the designated hubs by our DTI Baguio Benguet, DTI Kalinga, and DTI Mountain Province coffee focals. These entries have been submitted to the Barista & Coffee Academy of Asia (BCAA) for processing and evaluation by some of the coffee industry’s top roasters, cuppers, and graders.

The PCQC serves as a strategic thrust in promoting competitiveness among various stakeholders in the Coffee Industry to realize and actualize potentials mapped out in the 2017-2022 Philippine Coffee Industry Development Plan.

The 2022 PCQC Awarding Ceremony will be held on March 18, 2022, via blended modality.

PPG Orientation and Profiling

February 21-23,2022 I Conner, Apayao

DTI Apayao reached the barangays of Paddaoan, Talifugo, Nabuangan and Daga, Conner, Apayao. Participants from the said barangays were oriented on the programs and services offered by the agency including the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) program. Total of eighty (80) beneficiaries were profiled and assisted in the preparation of their simple business plan.

The barangay officials who attended the said activities expressed their gratitude to DTI-Apayao for bringing its services closer to the people.

NSB and PPG Orientation and Profiling
February 18-24, 2022 I Flora, Apayao

DTI-Apayao through its Negosyo Center Flora conducted Orientation and Profiling to the Eighty (80) beneficiaries of the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) and Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) Programs to the ten (10) barangays of Flora, Apayao. Under the PPG are the barangays of Upper Atok, Malayugan, San Jose and Atok; and for NSB, Malubibit Sur, Tamalunog, Anninipan, Allig, Balasi and Mallig.

The DTI-Apayao team discussed the PPG and NSB programs to the participants in addition to the DTI programs and services that are being offered to MSMEs. It ended with the profiling of the said beneficiaries.

The Punong Barangays of the said barangays expressed their support and gratitude to DTI-Apayao for the projects and programs that are continuously sustained and extended for the growth of MSMEs in their barangays. They pledged to be strong partners in the implementation of all DTI programs and projects.

February 22 -23, 2022 I Calanasan, Apayao

DTI-Apayao goes to the seven barangays of Calanasan, Apayao : Naguilian, Don Roque Ablan Sr., Lubong (Ferdinand), Eleazar, Tubang, Tubongan and Kabugawan.. Participants from the said barangays were provided with information on DTI programs and services. Business cliniquing and profiling were likewise conducted by the DTI Team to the thirty five (35) selected MSME beneficiaries under the Negesyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) Program.

NSB and PPG Consultation and Profiling
February 14-15, 2022 I Kabugao, Apayao

DTI-Apayao through its Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) and Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) Programs reached the two barangays of Kabugao, Apayao. Twenty-five (25) MSMEs from EKB and Bulu were introduced to the various DTI’s programs and services. One-on-one consultation, profiling and coaching in the preparation of simple business plan were also done by the DTI team to the said MSMEs who are engaged into Trading, Agri-business, Wearables and Homestyles, Services and Processed Fruits and Nuts.

The NSB and PPG programs aim to promote entrepreneurship in the countryside through the provision of skills and livelihood trainings as well as Livelihood Starter Kits to qualified beneficiaries.
