Congratulations, Passers! According to the official announcement by Cavite State University page, out of 21,739 incoming first-year applicants who took the admission examination, only 7,490 are qualified for admission to the CvSU-Main Campus due to its limited carrying capacity.

The theater event organized by the Student Artisté Society (StArS) featured a series of performances tackling social and emotional themes held from May 19 to 24 at the Sprint Center of Cavite State University – Main Campus.

The program aimed to raise awareness on mental health and explore the different perspectives of love through the power of performing arts. It is part of Stars’ advocacy to use theater as a platform for conversation, reflection, and understanding.

The featured acts included Supil, Lovestruck, Facets, and Hawla. Supil portrays the inner struggles of individuals facing suicidal thoughts, while Lovestruck explores the varied ways people experience and understand love.

The event was attended by students, faculty members, and guests who participated in the meaningful showcase and discussion of timely social issues.

Instructor I Thresecia Ricel F. Quirap plays a significant role in shaping the future of tourism students. Specializing in Tourism and Hospitality Management, she combines both academic expertise and practical experience to guide students in a fast-growing global industry.

Her classroom is more than just a space for academic learning; it's a place for personal growth and character development. “I teach tourism management because I want to build a passion in my students that lasts a lifetime,” Thresecia says, emphasizing the importance of cultivating confidence, adaptability, and the right attitude in her students. “In tourism, it's not about perfect grades—it’s about the skills you build and the attitude you carry with you.”

In the ever shifting landscape of politics and social issues, Kia Miravalles stands out as a beacon of inspiration at Cavite State University Main Campus. As a young Instructor in the Department of Social Sciences, she has already made a remarkable impact, guiding students through the complexities of Contemporary World Politics with both heart and intellect.

Though early in her career, Kia’s passion for teaching runs deep. With just two years of experience, she has become more than a dispenser of knowledge, she is an instructor who encourages her students to engage critically with the world around them. Kia finds endless excitement in the opportunities for growth and discovery her field offers.“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧,” she says. “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭. While some might measure success by awards or high-profile projects, Kia finds fulfillment in the everyday victories of teaching and mentoring.

For Kia, the most meaningful recognition she received was from a student who expressed her gratitude by telling she learned something personally from her class and promised to return one day as her ideal self in the future. “𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬.” Kia says.

Like many educators, Kia has faced her share of challenges, including burnout. She candidly describes the emotional toll of feeling underappreciated or taken for granted, and the struggle to maintain patience. Yet, she has learned to overcome these moments through rest, reflection, and the support of the people around her. “𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝. 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨” she says wholeheartedly.

For her, teaching is about much more than lessons and lectures. She hopes her students will carry with them the understanding that learning is a lifelong journey. “ 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬,” she emphasizes.“𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞.” She encourages her students to see setbacks as opportunities and to pursue their own version of success beyond academic achievements.

Kia’s faith in her students’ potential drives her passion for teaching. She believes education is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about personal growth, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. “𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧," 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬. “𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲.”

At the heart of her teaching is the desire to instill confidence and resilience in her students.“𝐈 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬, 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬.” she explains.

For Kia, being a hero in education is about so much more than teaching facts. Through her dedication, she is helping to mold not just scholars, but lifelong learners, leaving an indelible mark on the future generations to come.

In every classroom, there exists a silent thread that connects a teacher to her students—one made not only of knowledge but also of compassion, inspiration, and purpose. For 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐀. 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐬𝐨, that thread has grown stronger through her years of service in education. Currently holding the academic rank of Instructor I, she specializes in English and Linguistics, and has dedicated herself to guiding the next generation through the power of language and learning.

Though teaching was not initially part of her life plan, fate had other ideas. "No one in my family is a teacher," she recalls. "I had a different goal in mind before, but life redirected me here." What began as a profession she hadn’t imagined has since become a calling. Her journey into education, filled with uncertainties and turning points, was anchored by one constant—her desire to make a difference. "My students really keep me going," she shares. "Receiving messages like ‘Ma’am, graduate na po ako,’ or ‘Ma’am, teacher na po ako ngayon,’ is what motivates me and makes me continue to love what I do.”

Her love for learning is infectious, and it’s something she hopes to pass on to every student she meets. As she puts it, “I want my students to become lifelong learners.” For Instructor Virtuso, education does not end with a diploma. She believes in fostering open-mindedness, resilience, and the pursuit of continuous growth. But beyond intellectual excellence, she also emphasizes the importance of values. “A kind heart never fails,” she says, highlighting her hope that her students grow to be empathetic and respectful individuals in their personal and professional lives.

While many might consider her a “hero in education,” Instructor Virtuso humbly deflects such praise. “Being a ‘hero’ in education sounds too overwhelming for me,” she laughs. “I do not want my students to see me as a hero—but it means a lot when I hear how I’ve helped or inspired them.” For her, it is enough to be an instrument through which students recognize their own potential, just as her former teachers once did for her.

Instructor Virtuso’s academic journey is marked by dedication and scholarly excellence. She is currently completing her 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐞 𝐋𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 – 𝐃𝐚𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢ñ𝐚𝐬, where she has already been recognized twice as an 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 during the 2021–2022 and 2022–2023 academic years. She earned her 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 – 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧 2020.

Her contributions to research are equally impressive. She has presented at both national and international conferences, notably discussing linguistic trends such as the use of profanities on Twitter and cohesive devices in political speeches. In recognition of her academic and professional excellence, Instructor Virtuso was also named a high-performing alumna of the English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) course conducted by Ohio University. As a result of her outstanding performance, she was invited to serve as one of the facilitators in the EMI Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)—an opportunity that further highlights her role as a rising educator not only in the Philippines but also in the global academic community.

Now in her fifth year of teaching, Instructor Virtuso acknowledges that she still has much to learn—but rather than seeing this as a challenge, she welcomes it with open arms. “It excites me to see how much more I can contribute to the lives of the youth through this profession.”

For her students, she is more than an instructor—she is a guide, a motivator, and a quiet force of inspiration. And though she may not wear a cape or carry a title that declares her heroism, in every student she has uplifted, every mind she has opened, and every heart she has touched, 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐀. 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 | 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝗯𝘀𝘂𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗼𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅?

As Cavite’s heat index rises to a dangerous 47°C this April 13, 2025, students of 𝗖𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 – 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 are enduring more than academic stress. The intense heat has become a serious barrier to education, health, and daily life.

Many students commute from distant towns, braving the sun for a single class. The lack of functioning electric fans and air-conditioning in packed classrooms, especially in colleges like the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, worsens the situation. Instead of safe learning spaces, classrooms turn into heat traps, making it difficult to focus and perform.

Health risks like dehydration and heat exhaustion are increasing, with the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝘁𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰, 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (PAGASA) issuing regular warnings as heat indices breach "danger" levels (PAGASA, 2024). Students also report sleep disruption due to nighttime heat, contributing to fatigue and poor academic performance. Limited outdoor activities are another consequence, depriving students of physical exercise and recreational breaks that support mental well-being.

Kabsuhenyos continue to endure these conditions, but persistence should not mean passive acceptance. The university must respond with immediate measures such as functioning fans, air-conditioned rooms, regular maintenance, and flexible learning arrangements during extreme heat.

Safe and comfortable classrooms are not luxuries; they are essential for learning and well-being. This heat crisis is more than just a climate issue; it is a call for institutional compassion and accountability. Rising temperatures have highlighted significant gaps in infrastructure, preparedness, and student support. Acknowledging the problem is no longer enough; deliberate and compassionate action is required to ensure that students do not bear these conditions alone. Resilience should not be expected from students without the necessary systems in place; it demands concrete, empathetic action from those in power.
