A thorough analysis of the building site and context.

Including solar orientation, winds, views, vegetation, neighboring structures, climate, and zoning.

It will inform design decisions related to form, layout, fenestration, circulation, etc.

This reflects the approach of critically "reading" the location to inform an architecturally embodied response.

Guiding Principles

The key guiding principles underlying the design concept are:

Unification - The building should seamlessly blend with the natural landscape and urban textures around it.

Reflection - The form, materials, and orientation of the spaces should mirror and complement the distinctive elements of the location.

Adaptability - The structure should dynamically respond to the tropical climate, optimizing passive ventilation, sunlight, and shade.

Cultural Symbolism - As a contemporary Philippine building, it should respectfully incorporate vernacular architectural styles and motifs that resonate with local cultural values.

Introduction

The proposed design concept aims to create a building that harmoniously reflects and adapts to the Philippines' local geographical, cultural, and climatic context.

Specifically, the goal is to employ principles of sustainable tropical architecture to produce a structure that unifies with the surrounding environment while meeting the needs of its intended commercial purpose.

Inspired by the conversation I've had with my dad, I revisited the concept I once generated when studying architecture. It was a concept without application. A foundation without a structure. An unfinished project.

Using accessible modern-day tools, I finally saw my concept's implementation in architectural visuals. It's amazing how the advancement of technology can aid us in amplifying our very own ideas.
