What is Hōjicha?

Hōjicha (also spelled houjicha) is a type of Japanese green tea that’s roasted over high heat, usually made from bancha, sencha, or kukicha (twig tea). Unlike matcha or typical green tea, the roasting process gives it a warm, nutty, slightly smoky flavor with low bitterness and low caffeine.
