While mouth taping itself doesn’t “switch on” your brain or dramatically alter REM sleep, improved nasal breathing and oxygenation may support better sleep architecture, which includes more efficient deep sleep and REM cycles. This is why visualizations like the EEG-style brain hologram in the image are often used in educational content—they symbolize brain activity during high-quality sleep. ゚viralシ

A groundbreaking study from NYU Langone reveals that microscopic plastic particles are infiltrating prostate tumors at 2.5 times the rate of noncancerous tissue.

Scientists at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine have identified a troubling presence of microplastics in 90% of prostate cancer tumors examined during a recent pilot study. The research found that these microscopic fragments—likely ingested or inhaled from everyday products—were present at significantly higher concentrations in malignant tissue compared to healthy prostate cells. On average, cancerous samples contained approximately 40 micrograms of plastic per gram, nearly triple the amount found in non-malignant tissue. This discovery marks the first major investigation in the West to directly compare plastic accumulation between cancerous and healthy prostate sites.

While the presence of microplastics in human organs is well-documented, this study suggests these particles may play a direct role in cancer development by triggering chronic inflammation. Researchers hypothesize that persistent immune responses to these foreign materials could lead to genetic damage and tumor formation over time. Lead author Dr. Stacy Loeb emphasized that while microplastics have previously been linked to cardiovascular issues and dementia, these findings underscore an urgent need for stricter environmental regulations to limit human exposure. As prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among American men, understanding these environmental risk factors is a critical step in prevention and public health.

This sounds like a movie scene. But it happened in real life.

In 2004, lifeguard Rob Howes and his 15 year old daughter Niccy were swimming off Ocean Beach near Whangārei on New Zealand’s North Island. It was supposed to be an ordinary swim. Calm water. Open ocean. Nothing unusual.

Then a pod of bottlenose dolphins appeared.

At first, it felt magical. Dolphins are often seen as playful, curious, friendly. But what happened next turned wonder into something far more serious.

The dolphins began circling them. Not loosely. Not casually. Tightly. They formed a ring around Rob and Niccy, swimming in deliberate patterns, slapping the water with their tails. Every time the pair tried to move out of the circle, the dolphins nudged them back toward the center.

It was not random. A 3-meter-great white shark had entered the area. The shark approached. The dolphins closed ranks.

For about 40 minutes, the pod maintained the formation. They positioned themselves between the swimmers and the shark. They refused to let Rob and Niccy drift away from the protective circle. On shore, witnesses including other lifeguards observed the unusual behavior unfolding in the water.

Eventually, the shark retreated. Only then did the dolphins ease their formation and swim off.

Marine experts later explained that bottlenose dolphins are known to use mobbing tactics against sharks. They circle, harass, and defend their pod by forming tight defensive units. Their snouts are powerful enough to injure sharks, and they often work together strategically.

In this case, it is believed the humans were inside what the dolphins perceived as their defensive zone. Whether the dolphins intentionally protected Rob and Niccy or instinctively defended their group while the swimmers happened to be there, the outcome was the same.

Two people walked away unharmed.

The story resurfaced virally in late 2025, captivating millions once again. Because no matter how much science explains it, something about it still feels extraordinary.
For 40 minutes, wild animals in the open ocean created a barrier between a predator and two humans.

The ocean can be unpredictable. Sharks are apex predators. Dolphins are known for their social complexity and teamwork. But moments like this remind us that nature is not always what we expect. Sometimes, survival stories are not just about human courage.
