Public Transport Modernization Program

In today’s Public Transport Modernization Program Highlights, we are sharing a clear snapshot of where the work stands. On May 20, 2025, then-Secretary Vince Dizon presented the program’s status to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who gave firm directions to push the reforms forward and correct implementation gaps.

Under Secretary Giovanni Lopez, the thrust remains stronger in ex*****on and tighter in focus. At the center of all this are the commuters, ensuring a public transport system that is reliable, safe, and accessible to every Filipino.

Up to ₱400,000 Equity Subsidy in Financing:
The Equity Subsidy has been increased up to ₱400,000 per unit (depending on the class). A higher upfront subsidy reduces the loan exposure of cooperatives. Making fleet transition financially realistic.

Data-Led and Accelerated Route Planning:
Route plans are being fast-tracked with technical support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the National Capital Region and adjoining areas and from the World Bank for cities of Baguio, Bacolod, Iloilo, General Santos, and the Tri-City (Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue Cities).

More rational deployment of modern units and more reliable service where demand is highest. What we are trying is fix routes, strengthen financing, and scale what works.
