To get better at running, you have to put in the work.
From January to May as I trained for the SM2SM and Singlife CIM, I accumulated:
• 89 runs
• 722 km of distance
• 82 hours of running
And if I include everything—pre-run preparation, warm-ups, and cool-downs—that’s about 171 hours of total time invested.
Breakdown:
• Per month: ~34 hours 10 minutes
• Per week: ~7 hours 55 minutes
• Per day: ~1.13 hours
And this is just for 2026 alone.
My biggest realization in this journey is that no one gets better fast. Improvement takes time and consistency. No matter how busy life gets, you have to make space for it. Just as important, you also need enough recovery time to avoid injuries.
And lastly, none of this is possible without the support of my family.
This isn’t just about running. The same principles apply to anything we choose to pursue in life — progress takes time, consistency, and support.

Running isn’t free. To improve, you need to invest in the right gear — shoes, watch, hydration carrier, shirts, shorts, and more. But beyond equipment, even training itself comes with recurring costs.
Take a typical long run, for example.
During a 26 km run, I usually take:
• 1 GU gel every 6 km → about 4 gels
• 1 SaltStick every 7 km → about 3 tablets
Cost breakdown:
• GU gel: ~₱100 each × 4 = ₱400
• SaltStick: ~₱40 each × 3 = ₱120
So for a single 26 km long run, the fuel alone already costs around ₱520.
Running builds discipline and fitness, but it also quietly builds up real expenses over time.
Week 12 long run 🏃🏻
Fatigue from my CPET yesterday kicked in at 17km mark. Did a run-walk from 20-24 km and went back to easy rhythm towards the end.

Longest run to date 🏃🏻
Longest run to date. 1 min faster than my 25km run last week. This also has 182m of total elevation compared to 61m last week. 🏃🏻
Longest run to date. . .
Mileage ramping up to 32km as part of my Singlife Marathon Training.
