MPSU Employees Embrace Indigenous Traditions and Mental Wellbeing in Closing Celebration
Mountain Province State University (MPSU) concluded its "Weaving our Strengths: A Celebration of Indigenous Culture and Mental Wellbeing" event on October 31, 2024, with a vibrant and unifying boodle fight held at the MPSPC Admin Building. The event highlighted the profound connection between indigenous traditions and mental health, emphasizing the importance of community and shared experiences in fostering well-being.
The celebration drew inspiration from the Igorot custom of communal eating, where sharing a meal of boiled chicken and vegetables symbolizes unity and strengthens bonds. This tradition echoes the core message of the event: that fostering connections and providing support are crucial for mental health.
The boodle fight, a Filipino tradition of sharing food laid out on banana leaves, served as a fitting finale. Employees came together to enjoy a feast, symbolizing the collective spirit and support system that are vital for mental wellness within the MPSU workplace.
By weaving together indigenous practices and contemporary understanding of mental health, MPSU's "Weaving our Strengths" celebration successfully promoted cultural awareness and encouraged a more inclusive and supportive environment for its employees. The event served as a powerful reminder that fostering connections and embracing cultural heritage are essential steps towards building a stronger, healthier workplace.
