Exposure to blue environments, natural "blue spaces" such as the sky and large bodies of water. Can trigger an immediate calming response in the human nervous system. Research consistently shows that viewing blue can lower systolic blood pressure, heart rate, and pulse rate.
Historically, the color blue signals safety, fresh air, and life-sustaining resources.
Whether through the calming "Blue Spaces" of nature or the intentional design of a workspace, the color blue serves as a powerful psychological anchor. By lowering stress and encouraging creativity, it remains one of the most effective environmental tools for maintaining mental and emotional balance.

(1958): In a foundational study, Gerard demonstrated that blue light stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which governs the body's "rest and digest" functions. His work established that while red light can increase physiological arousal and stress, blue light actively diminishes it, fostering a state of well-being.

๐ (2019โ2025): Led by ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, this research included a massive global survey of over 26,000 people. The results confirmed that dark blue is the world's most relaxing color.

๐ ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฑ๐๐๐๐: Between 2000 and 2010, blue LED lights were installed at 71 train stations in Japan. Research following the installation showed a remarkable 84% decrease in su***de attempts, highlighting blue's immediate ability to stabilize extreme emotional distress.
๐ด๐๐๐๐ & ๐๐๐ (2009): In a landmark study from the University of British Columbia, researchers ๐๐ข๐ท๐ช ๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ต๐ข and ๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ช๐ฆ๐ต ๐ก๐ฉ๐ถ found that blue environments enhanced performance on creative tasks by inducing an "approach motivation".

In response to the call for binnadang activities this Christmas season, Little Good Deeds has partnered with Project Paraw (Protecting Aquatic Resources through Awareness and Wonder) and Liv Language Program for a storytelling activity titled Currents of Care โ Tales of the Tide: Caring for the Sea at Buyagan Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet, last December 16, 2025.
Volunteers narrated and role-played key characters of the childrenโs book The Sea We Hope to See, authored by Agaphea Rosario and illustrated by Cromwell Cruz, to 34 students of one Grade 3 class.
To assess the childrenโs comprehension, each child was asked to draw their favorite character from the story and answer two short essay questions: โWho or What is it?โ and โWhy is it your favorite?โ
The event concluded with five students sharing their outputs with the class.
The Sea We Hope to See highlights the importance of environmental awareness and protection, and social responsibility.
We would like to thank our Project Leader, Zandra Bustillo, and our volunteers Agaphea Rosario, Jamis Pagayon, Benedict Gicanal, Gelone Ofilada, Daniella Labajosa, Jeric Palarca, and Zephyr Gaspar.
*Consent was asked for and given.
