This is what Jeremy had to say:
"Durievale Retreat was one of the nicest Airbnb's that we have ever stayed in : ) Everything was thought through to the last detail and we loved the proximity to town, the sense of being away from it all while very close to all amenities - we woke up to the sound of cows mooing across the valley. We loved the setting and the beautiful, fresh colour scheme. Everybody in the family was very comfortable and we would happily have moved in for a much longer stay. Many thanks!"
This is what David & Nicole had to say:
Cassandra's house was the perfect house for our family of four. It suited my two and four year old girls to a tee. There were games for them to play in the cupboard to a lovely fenced off backyard to run around in. We even saw a wild rabbit on the lawn. The scenery make you feel so far away from town but you are a couple of streets over. Cassandra was one of the best hosts to communicate with and nothing was an issue. We come to Wanganui regularly and will try to book this home every time. Thank you
This is what Blair wrote:
This is the best Airbnb we have ever stayed at, very highly recommended. Extremely clean and tidy with many extra touches to make your stay relaxing and memorable. My wife and I were simply blown away with how clean and tidy your place is, and all the little extra touches e.g. freshly squeezed orange juice, a cupboard fill of games an toys for the kid, well stocked breakfast items and my name on your netflix login to name a few. We were on the last day of our holiday and found your place to be the relaxing haven that we needed. Your place is head and shoulders above any other Airbnb, motel or hotel we have every stayed in, you guys should be very, very proud of what you have created. We would love to stay again next time we are in Whanganui. Cheers Blair
WOW, we finally have our superhost status back once again. We have been very proud to have held super host status since 2015 and were shocked to lose it in November 2020 when Robyne Penn gave us a very unexpected low rating 2/5 saying in her feedback that our "listing was not accurate and that the driveway was very steep, you can not take your car down and have to park on the road. You have to take your suitcases up and down manually, it was raining most of our visit, so not good. No handrail and steep. We are 2 women in our seventies and would not have booked this house had we known. This should be mentioned in the description of the property as it does present difficulties for all sorts of reasons". In order to gain super host status you have to maintain a yearly rating of 4.8 out of 5 therefore to have been given our first ever low rating it has taken us half a year of gaining perfect 5 out of 5's from multiple guests to gradually claw this result back again. This comment was completely undeserved, as we do make it very clear in our listing that the house is not suitable for mobility impaired guests several times over on account of the stairs and sloped driveway. This is also clearly shown in our photos. We also follow this up in our email correspondence and advise guests that if they do have mobility issues we can make parking available for them on a flat surface right outside the entrance way. We actually meet this guest where they parked on the Street outside the property and asked them if they would like to bring their car down the driveway and they replied that they were happy to leave it outside the mailbox on the street. My husband who is retired and the same age as them even offered to carry their bags down and they declined and it was simply untrue that it was raining.

"Our stay at Durie Vale was exceptional. David and Cassandra have set up the house to an amazingly high standard that's going to be hard to beat. It was comfortable, clean and better than home. This is what Wendy had to say:
“We had a restful stay here and have no hesitation recommending this place. Stylishly decorated, everything is fresh and clean. The house is very well kitted out, especially the full kitchen with a wide selection of cereals and spreads. The photos are accurate. The valley is peaceful and we would stay here again. Really handy to town - just a short walk.”

One of our highlights was hosting Tanya and Manfred and their children from African Bush Bird Tours from Namibia in Africa. They were the most interesting and inspiring guests who delighted us with details of their tourism venture. Their accommodation and tours seem amazing and a trip to Namibia is now on our bucket list. https://www.bushbird.com/
This is what our guests have to say:
Three friends and I stayed for just one night at Durie Vale and wished we’d been able to stay longer. The house is in a perfect setting with wonderful views over the bush from the decks. So peaceful and quiet and yet close to the city The house is perfect...pristine, tasteful and has everything you could want. Beds are comfortable, rooms are cosy and we couldn’t believe what we saw when we opened the pantry door. One of my friends said it was like a grocery shop with all kinds of goodies. Such generous hosts who made us feel very welcome. We will be back I’m 100% sure of that. Thank you David and Cassandra
Harvested the last of our pomegranates today. Our red hibiscus is also in full bloom.
Our Banana tree has a massive flower on it today which the bees are busy pollinating so hoping for another bunch of bananas later in the year.
Congrats, Cassandra! You’ve earned Superhost 4 times in a row, which means you’ve earned a Superhost bonus (click on the flower below to see).
"We’ve stayed at dozens of Airbnbs around the world and this is our favorite! Roomy, beautifully positioned on a bird-filled gorge and a short stroll from town. Super fast internet and great hosts! Thanks for a great stay!"

Yet another touch of the tropics in full bloom in our gardens today - hibiscus 🌺
After a five year wait for our tree to reach fruiting maturity the day has finally arrived, baby pomegranates! Let’s hope these will be first of many to come. We have the most amazing warm sheltered microclimate in this valley that enables us to grow many plant species that wouldn’t survive elsewhere in Whanganui.
A beautiful double rainbow over our slice of paradise this evening
We have had a very multinational guest list this week: Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Spain, Germany, Australia and China.
Our citrus trees at Durievale Retreat have been fantastic this year and are fully laden with fresh juicy organic fruit which is now ripe for the picking. There are oranges, tangelos, lemons and limes which we are happy for guests to sample while staying at the property.
A beautiful pair of Kererū (wood pigeons) resting on the plum tree this morning. We are so privileged to be able to view these gorgeous birds on a daily basis in the trees around Durievale Retreat. I'm off to cast my vote in favor of them in the bird of the year www.birdoftheyear.org.nz
