Brooklyn Battle Annual Touch Tournament
Comments
Yesterday WTA had three teams competing at the annual Brooklyn Battle Tournament in Whanganui.
✅ U16 Boys
✅ U16 Girls
✅ U18 Boys
It was an awesome day of touch, where each team played exceptionally well and developed throughout the tournament. Congratulations to the U18 Boys for winning the men’s development grade in a drop off - exciting stuff 🥇.
Thank you to all the managers, coaches, parent helpers and unofficial Uber drivers for continuing to support our youth players. Without your help, days like today wouldn’t happen. 💛🖤
Finally, a massive thanks to organisers of Brooklyn Battle Annual Touch Tournament. Amazing mahi by the organisers and it was great to be part of the 10th year. We will be back.

While we focus on raising awareness for the BrooklynLove Foundation ... we also approve 1 or 2 other small groups or business and who are willing to embrace our kaupapa.
Mary's Kai Shak specialize in Pasifika flavours and they are so yummy... more to follow soon.
She will be parked in the usual spot so keep an eye out for them.
The canteen will be open too for refreshments, tea, coffee and light snacks.

This Foundation has been established to support other families who walk the cancer journey alongside their children.
Many sacrifices were made to ensure Brooklyn received all the love and attention he required to help him cope with the treatment. The trauma that the initial diagnosis creates is sometimes unbearable.
BrooklynsLove Foundation hopes to alleviate some of the burden families experience as they take this cancer journey.

Don't forget ... the whanau will be running a kai tent for all who can and want to support the kaupapa further. We will keep things affordable for you and hopefully have a few of the favourites and a good choice for all.
Will also run a raffle, sell steam puds and small loafs of rewana (made from the bug). Please look out for us on top next to the canteen. Good luck and have a tumeke day. 🥰🥰🥰

BROOKLYN BATTLE 2022 - EVENT UPDATE
Kia ora koutou e te whānau
We hope that you and all your whānau are all safe and well at this time. COVID-19 has certainly been difficult and challenging for everyone across the motu. The BrooklynsLove Foundation Trustees have reviewed the current COVID-19 information available and have made a decision regarding our event.
As you will be aware, we have been monitoring the latest COVID-19 situation closely. We are in contact with health professionals regularly to stay abreast of matters.
The BrooklynsLove Foundation Trustees have reviewed the current COVID-19 information available and have made the very difficult decision that the planned Brooklyn Battle will be cancelled for 2022.
We know that this will be very disappointing for many teams, officials, volunteers and whānau and we share in that disappointment. The decision was not taken lightly and has been made, first and foremost, with the safety of everyone in mind.
The Trustees have made this decision in light of our values, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, hauora, tū tāngata and the following factors:
- Our ability to ensure everyone’s safety from COVID-19 at and around the event.
- Our concern for Tamariki under 12 who are unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19 at this time and therefore at high risk of contracting the virus.
- The Battle will contribute to increased travel of our touch whānau throughout Aotearoa and the potential for COVID-19 to spread back to many of our touch communities as a result.
- The knowledge that, although all adult attendees at the Battle will be required to be vaccinated, that there is still a risk, albeit reduced, for COVID to be transmitted.
- The large inequities and disparity in vaccination rates for Māori and Pasifika whānau compared with general population vaccination percentages - click here for Vaccination Statistics in Aotearoa
- A high percentage of participants at the Battle are Māori or Pasifika
This will be the first time in 10 years since the event started in 2010, that we will not have a Brooklyn Battle. This event has grown to become part of many of our lives and a highlight on our touch calendar, an opportunity to come together, catch up with friends and whānau, make new friends, share culture, increase awareness, compete on the field and celebrate a sport and kaupapa that gives us all so much in return.
To all our Battle whānau who are essential workers and health professionals, we would like to thank you all for the mahi you continue to do to protect and help us all while putting your own lives and whānau at risk.
Finally, whānau, please continue to stay safe over the next couple of months, look after each other, be kind and make decisions that will help keep you and your whānau safe during this time.
Many of you will have questions and we are happy to answer any and all questions that you have. Please contact us through our Brooklyn Battle page should you have any questions.
Kia kaha, kia manawanui, kia haumaru ōu koutou noho.
Trustees for BrooklynsLove Foundation
