We have been hiding in Fiordland (well not exactly hiding) since we last posted our last blog. We had friends on board for about 3 weeks in September and we were able to complete a number of landings and hikes that we had wanted to do to for a long. More recently we embarked 8 Kayakers (7 New Zealanders and 1 Canadian) and spent 10 days exploring southern Fiordland through the eyes and experiences of the Kayakers. It was a brilliant expedition, the weather was exceptionally good and the opportunities were outstanding and amazing. We complimented the kayaking with some great hikes and so saw and experienced more of the Fiords than most visitors.

We are here until the end of November and then will be on Stewart Island until the new year and again in February 2023. There is one female berth available on our Feb 17 – 25th 2023 expedition, if you are interested in joining us please contact us on [email protected]

Strong interest in our advertised December 2022 Stewart Island expeditions has resulted in them all being fully subscribed. We are not surprised, it is an amazing destination with so much on offer, so much to see, experience and enjoy. Because we would like as many people as possible to discover what this island has to offer we have added two more departures in February 2023. One has already been snapped up by a group and the other will fill very quickly.

Milford Sound to Preservation Inlet.

We have one twinshare cabin and one male berth* available on this departure. To see and experience all of Fiordland’s fiords is a trip of a lifetime. There are 14 fiords, but one of them, Sutherland Sound, is only accessible by zodiac, the remaining 13 create one of the greatest cruising grounds in the world. It is wrong to think that just because they are all fiords they are all the same; every one of them is unique and different with their own story. We invite you to experience and enjoy these 13 fiords.

Keen to work as a junior deck hand on the Expedition Yacht MV Strannik?

This is a great opportunity to work and study towards your first Maritime Qualification with Strannik Ocean Voyages and Skipper Training while getting plenty of practical experience at sea

MV Strannik is a 24 metre Expedition Yacht owned and operated by biologist, adventurer and author Rodney Russ.

We are looking for a young(er) crew member to join the vessel as a deck hand. This would ideally suit you if you’re wanting to start a career in commercial yachting or expedition travel, especially if you’re keen on sailing, natural history, photography, hiking, diving or other outdoor pursuits.

It is an opportunity to accumulate significant sea time and experience to put towards gaining formal qualifications. The experienced crew are happy to teach and instruct in all aspects of seamanship.

Duties include all aspects of vessel and expedition work. Accommodation, meals and transport to and from your hometown are provided. Wage by negotiation.

If you’re addicted to the internet, Facebook, gaming and weekend parties don’t bother to apply, but if you have an inquisitive mind, enjoy meeting interesting people, and have a hankering for adventure and the sea, then this just might be the kick start to your career that you a looking for.

After successfully completing your on-board contract, you will be offered the opportunity to complete a suitable maritime qualification run by Skipper Training in Nelson. Course fees are included as part of the contract.
