S.J. Seahawk - We acheived what we set out to do - that was to create a rough water handling, high speed, sports fishing boat. Made from aluminium, its a 10 metre tri-hull on a triple axle trailer, built to withstand harsh Cook Strait conditions.
Test day speed achieved 54 knots (101 kmph or 62 mph)
Cruise speed 30 knots at 3800 rpm (55 kmph or 34 mph) - laden with fuel and passengers.

"S.J. Seahawk" - new generation aluminium tri-hull sports fishing boat and triple axle trailer meticulously built by the team at Morris Metal Products in Petone.

Scope: Fast efficient sport fishing boat for the harsh Cook Strait conditions 🌊

This in-house design + build from Phil and the team is a very unconventional at 10 metres long with a custom 12 metre triple axle trailer.

S.J.Seahawk - the Wing.
We developed the wing to generate lift in the centre of mass of the boat, effectively utilising the air speed going over the cabin to unload the boat and lighten it when it's underway.
Theoretically it can lift 300kg at 50km/30mph and 490kg at 100km/60mph per hour.
We made an actuator in-house so that we could trim the wing to the attitude of the boat at a given speed. That was the thinking behind it and if nothing else it would look really cool. We tested it on our truck!!

S.J. Seahawk - our revolutionary 10m aluminium tri hull. The carbon fibre cabin top has been painted with a high-build primer in preparation for the top coat, and we've pre-fitted the beltings, bow sprit, fairlead and some of the cockpit. Many of the parts for this unusual boat have been cut in-house on our CNC router. The beltings were made from HDPE, and the bow sprit and fairlead were cut from 10mm aluminium plate. Check out the build on our previous posts!! More to come and launch imminent!!

S.J. Seahawk. Radical 10m aluminium tri-hull fishing/leisure boat launching soon! Most parts cut in-house on our CNC router and fabricated in our Petone workshop. After weighing the boat and the cabin top we assembled them temporarily. Cabin top comes in at 63 kg, and bare hull at 1668 kg. Total 1731 kg - weight budget on target!!!
