Acknowledging the start of National Volunteer Week with a whakatauki, or proverb, that draws on the notion of the collective.
It is through the collective efforts of our volunteers that we are able to bring Blessed Box to our district's mothers each month. The biggest trade off for volunteering time, effort, skills or tangible items, is most definitely the feeling of a full heart upon the completion of another round of Blessed Box.
To all of our volunteers, a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing support. Blessed Box wouldn't exist without you π·β¨

Hello team π·
We've been a bit quiet on here lately but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy behind the scenes!
The month of May saw us bless 10 mothers in the Clutha District with meals & treats; from Milton to Tapanui we delivered boxes making sure mums knew their community cared!
We also set up stall at the Clutha Culture Fest with a bake sale; it was great to be a part of a wider community event and enjoy tastes from around the world β¨
In the month of June we hope to bless approx. 15 mothers in our district with a Blessed Box π² So please if you know a mumma that has a due date in June, make sure you refer them through the link below so we can bless them in their postpartum period π€±πΎ
If you would like to volunteer or contribute in another way, you can find all of the info on our website, or just send us a message π·

If you are able to donate some baking for our bake sale at the Clutha Culture Fest this Sunday, let us know!
π·π·π·

Baking is part of our thing, so it's only fitting that we keep up the tradition with a bake sale at the Clutha Culture Fest on Sunday May 23rd! π°
If you're willing and able to donate some baking for us to fundraise for Blessed Box, send us a message!
Otherwise, we'll see you there! π§

Our community is a special one; so many people & businesses willing to give time and resources to a cause that sits right with them.
We are blessed π·

You all know who you are & you really are just fabulous! β¨

Shout out to all of the mothers out there, happy mothers day π ππ½
"Parenting is unlike any other job I have had. You can give it your absolute all, but at the end of the week, itβs almost like that effort didnβt exist. The food you cooked has gone. The cleaning you did has been erased. The pile of laundry is exactly the same size, despite multiple tedious trips to the washing line and little piles of neatly folded clothes that seemingly rearrange themselves all over the dining table.
You havenβt progressed towards a promotion, pleased a client or produced anything remotely tangible. Even the impressive Lego castle you built was ceremoniously smashed and then packed back away into colour coded drawers. The fight you diffused, the meltdown you avoided, the spill you cleaned up, they have all evaporated into thin air.
But then, something takes you back in time, back to the beginning and you realise that despite the lack of performance reviews and annual bonuses, every effort has not been in vain.
The pay check is there. Itβs in the hugs, the tears, the laughter. Itβs there when you catch your child doing something kind, or watch them proudly mastering a new skill.
And while your bosses arenβt particularly forthcoming with praise, it's worth remembering that you have finally got yourself a job where you are completely irreplaceable."

Speaking of bliss balls, here's the recipe for our cookie dough bliss balls if you'd like to try them out!
β¨4 tablespoons peanut butter (we use )
β¨3 tablespoons honey (we use )
β¨1 teaspoon vanilla extract
β¨pinch of salt
β¨1/3 cup 72% dark chocolate chips or 40 grams, finely chopped
β¨1 1/4 cups almond meal
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, roll into snack sized balls and store in the fridge for up to a month.
If you need to add a bit more peanut butter or honey (or choccy) to make the mixture stick better, go ahead! The almond meal can also be substituted for ground oats and the recipe can be doubled or tripled to make a large batch!
Such a versatile recipe!
We love these, have you tried them?

That's a lot of blissful moments!

This is Kayla, the Cook Coordinator for Blessed Box!
Kayla joined the Blessed Box committee in January this year, she was inspired by the kindness friends and family had shown her family when her son Sam was born during lockdown in March 2020.
"Getting delivered a meal or baking during that 'fourth trimester' period was next level wonderful so being part of the Blessed Box team was something I knew would 100% make a difference to families in the Clutha District and something I could certainly relate to!"
Once referrals close towards the end of each month, Kayla gets in touch with our amazing suppliers who donate food & items. She then organises the monthly shopping list for each month's cook and plans what the cook will look like and who will do what! She is our "go to", if we need anything on the day, Kayla's got it sorted!
"It has been great meeting new people in the community and also reconnecting with people from long ago! The vibe at the cooks has been so positive and you really can feel the love being put into every meal! We have been blown away with how many people are keen to help out at the monthly cooks and the wonderful feedback from families when they receive their box of goodness! 'It takes a village' and I am really enjoying being a tiny part of the village for families in the Clutha District alongside the rest of the Blessed Box team!"
