Summit Disabled Ski Program

Hey Guys!

For the last 2 seasons at turoa I have worked as the snowsports adaptive Co ordinator! And each season I have raised thousands of dollars for adaptive snowsports! This year I have taken a year out from New Zealand and I am working in Zermatt, Switzerland. I work for a ski school here called Summit! As part of the Summit team I am developing a new Adaptive program! So yet again I am raising money for Adaptive snowsports! This year I am competing in a 46k run with a 3600m vertical. I know this is out side out of New Zealand but I would still like to ask you for your help in sponsoring me. Every little helps and it will go toward buying all new Adaptive Equipment to start up our program!

Thank you guys

Ashley Morton

[08/21/14]   Calling all athletes...

The biggest news from the Adaptive Centre this season is that Turoa Ski Area is hosting the Snow Sports Talent Identification Camp, proudly supported by the AGITOS Foundation.

Snow Sports NZ (SSNZ) is the NGB responsible for delivering Paralympic pathways in New Zealand from grass roots through to high performance. SSNZ in conjunction with Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) intends to identify and promote development pathways for youth skiers and snowboarders with a specific focus on female athletes.

The Identification Camp ultimately aims to identify, develop and support emerging talent with potential for future Paralympic success, within the disciplines of visually impaired, mono-ski, three-track, or four-track.

If you are eligible for this camp, all on-mountain costs will be funded by Snow Sports NZ and the AGITOS Foundation. This will include lift tickets, instruction from World Class coaches and instructors, equipment hire if needed, mentoring from Paralympic athletes, and a Classification opportunity.

The 3-day camp starts Friday 29th August at 9am; for a registration pack, simply contact Jane Stevens by email at [email protected] or call 021 222 4479.

[07/29/14]   Hello

I hope you have enjoyed the summer and looking forward to the upcoming winter. This is an email just to update you on this season's adaptive programme, lesson and equipment options for season 2014.

Firstly are great team of adaptive instructors have returned and ready to work again this season. So you will see some familiar faces on the mountain. Also all the equipment has been serviced and looking good for the new season.

This year we are asking everyone to become a member of ASNZ before you arrive on the hill. This will make you eligible for the adaptive discounts. Without the membership you will be unable to obtain the discounted prices. So please, do it before you arrival to the hill. Visit

We also have a development camp running this season on the 29th 30th and 31st August. This is for any athletes that would like to get involved in competitive adaptive snow sports. We are keen to find new talent to represent NZ in next winter Olympics. If you would like anymore information on this or know of anymore that might be interested please send them my way. The training is being funded by one of our programmes, therefore it could potentiality be a free event. I can also send you information to apply for funding for lift passes and accommodation costs. We are looking for people under the age of 30. This could be if you are visually imparted, use a mono ski, three track or four track.

We hope to see you on the mountain this season and getting involved in our great adaptive packages. For more information on this please visit our website or email myself on [email protected]

Robotic wheelchair from Chiba Tech turns wheels into legs and climbs over steps

Very cool : At the Chiba Institute of Technology, a group led by Shuro Nakajima has developed a robot wheelchair that can climb over steps. This robot can make a variety of movements, using its four-wheel drive and five axes. Normally, it rolls along on its wheels, but if there's a step or ...

Awesome work! Way to go Travis and Tyla!

We helped fund Tyla Hart's trip on a school camp to Mount Ruapehu through the Halberg Trust Activity Fund, and her fantastic time on the slopes even made the newspapers

Her teacher aide, Caroline Finlay, reported that “the permanent grin on her face said it all, it turns out she is an adrenaline j***y." We're very glad to have helped you out Tyla, and we look forward to hearing all about your next trip to the snow.

The Paralympics: Eleven days 'will change the world'

Sir Philip Craven believes this will usher in a new era of awareness about disability issues! What do YOU all think? ;-) The head of the international Paralympic movement believes the London Games will usher in "a new enlightenment of the 21st century", ending the marginalisation of people with disabilities. As more than 4,000 athletes from 165 countries arrive in Britain, Sir Philip Craven revealed his dream that 11 ...

Sit Skiing with Travis

Brian is straight killin it in this video! With a spinal cord injury at T6, most adaptive programmes would have recommended a bi-ski lesson. With the right set up and the ol' 'give it a go' attitude, he acheived his goal of independent mono turns. What are YOUR goals and what are you doing to acheive them? ;-)

Second Day sit skiing at Mt Rhuapehu in New Zealand.

Are folks gettin excited for this or what?! ;-)
