Prime Minister Chris Hipkins reveals his new Cabinet

With all the chaos that Auckland and much of the North Island are experiencing, and the ongoing heavy rain warnings, it might have been difficult to keep up to date with the new Prime Minister’s cabinet reshuffle.

While Hon Michael Wood remains the Workplace Relations and Safety Minister, he has also picked the new Minister for Auckland - moving up to number seven in the cabinet. He’ll also be working alongside Finance Minister, Hon Grant Robertson, as Associate Minister of Finance.

Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan remains the Associate Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety and Hon Peeni Henare is the new Minister for ACC.

For more information, see

Our job now is to ensure the Ministers are fully briefed on and aware of the industry’s issues, so watch this space.

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins reveals his new Cabinet Andrew Little loses health, Nanaia Mahuta loses local government, and a new Minister for Auckland is announced as new faces are elevated to the front bench.

Our thoughts are with our colleagues and members in the upper North Island who are really taking a weather hammering. We’re very conscious that some members’ homes and families may have been affected, along with their businesses, some of which may be doing it tough, too. So, if any member needs any kind of assistance or support, give us a call at NZFIA. We’ll see what we can do/who we can connect you to. Good luck and know we’re thinking of you. Let’s hope it’s over soon without too much more damage being done.

We would like to introduce you to our NZFIA Board members. Starting with Des Welsh the President of NZFIA. Des is the Director/CEO of Central Forklift Group. He started the business along with his business partners back in 1996. Des has been involved in in the Forklift Industry ever since he left school and started on the tools as an apprentice technician. Des did his apprenticeship with Cable Price and worked up to middle Management before leaving to be involved with setting up and starting Central.

Des lives in Wellington with his wife and they have 3 adult children. Des enjoys multiple sports, but these days mainly golf, skiing and a bit of cycling.

The NZFIA would like to thank Des for the work and support he offers us and our Members. Central Group Forklifts and Trucks Fowlers Machinery 2017 Ltd
