What a day!!!!! Always so much fun with Rustic.nz

As you can imagine with Level 3 there isn’t a heck of a lot Trudi and I can do other then running the shop online and opening for a few hours each day, So we decided to make use of the day tidying up the front garden…. You know it was just gonna be a 30 min job…. Easy as 😳

Nope! It took us a good 4 hours haha! And at one point we were both pulling on a root and it snapped and I was on bum in the Garden and Trudi next to me 😂 if nothing else we gave people driving past a heck of a laugh

But….. look how good it looks!!! I’m proud of us 👌

The Ko Lab + story

Buckle your seats this one is abit of a novel!

With all our new followers I thought it would be a good insight into how things got to where they are now.

In 2015, I was a stay at home Mum to
Our beautiful 4 year old daughter and our darling 1 year old twin boys, my husband started bringing Pallets home and I decided to make a few things out of them, next thing I knew I was making more and more and had actually become really good at it. Hence photo number 1…. The for ever growing pallet pile that gave me the business name ( Pallet Palace) kinda like smash palace but with pallets 😂

In 2017 I decided to build a garden shed in that same corner to store all my pallet wood after I had taken them all apart, things had really taken off with my mud kitchens and I was going through a lot of pallets.

Early 2019 I was smashing out cheese boards, and decided I would really like some where nice for people to pick up the cheese boards rather then my dusty she shed or drive way, I decided to purchase a cabin and put it in the same corner…. Then came the brain wave, That I could have other local people putting their stuff in my mini shop and help get their stuff seen aswell. Little did I know that my little shop at home would become a thing! People from all over would come and check it out.

2020 I decided that the shop needed to hit the road! That instead of making people come to us…. We could go to them! I know I know it seemed like such a good idea, until I bought it and realised that wasn’t going to be ideal with 3 kids! But little did I know, that wasn’t going to be a issue because after being told to bring the trailer down to a local cafe for a weekend….. we ended up being told to stay! For 6 months! Until Covid hit!!!

Later 2020 We then got offered a opportunity to build a new mini shop off the side of the local Kaos on queen Cafe, it needed a new name!!!!!

But what? What do you call a collaboration shop? Colab…. But with a K for Kimi

Ko Lab + was born!

Shortly after we opened our brand new doors, The second lock down happened, We felt like we were doomed! Every thing we had was used to build the new shop, how would we keep it afloat…. Then we finally got to open again, and the support we received was incredible! We went from strength to strength…. Taking on more stockist, growing a growing until our tiny little shack was filled to the brim. Each day I would receive more messages asking if we were interested in taking on more stock but we just couldn’t find the space.

Which brings us to 2021! After a year in our mini shop we had to make the decision to possibly look at finding some where bigger, but where, how? Could we make it work?

After a chat with a friend of mine about her looking for a place to do a pop up for their local business Rustic.nz we kinda thought, I wonder if we could do something together? But again…. Where? How? The very next day some one contacted her about a possible place! And within a day we looked at it, said yes and decided we were both bat s**t crazy but hey why not try and reach for the stars.

So there you have it, the Ko Lab + in collaboration with another awesome small business just giving it a go and seeing if we can make something pretty awesome from it.

From a stack of pallets in 2015 to a actual shop in 2021 - 6 years in the making and proving they no matter what gets thrown at you, if you work hard and stay focused any thing is possible
