Taranaki Falls under freezing winter conditions and with an incredible fresh snowfall all around.
One of my hopes for photography this year was to explore Tongariro National Park in all it's winter goodness. I saw the forecast and luckily was timed with a few days off work so I knew I had to get down right away, during or right after the storm passed, before the snow melted in this unseasonably warm winter.
I arrived to moody snow-fleeting showers so I knew it was perfect! Getting up super early before all the tourists arrived was key so I set off just after sunrise and arrived to this place all to myself. It allowed me to shoot to my hearts content without people in my images and me in theirs!
Technically an impossible-to-stay-dry shot and while the spray was impossible to keep of the lens, I am super stoked to get this an other images from here, particularly as I have never seen another panorama from behind this falls!
Epic epic winter conditions and so stoked to get these long awaited shots here!

So over lockdown Ruapehu NZ ran a landscape competition and I was lucky enough to take it out. So this was what I chose to use my prize on. Thanks heaps Mountain Air Volcanic Flights, couldn’t of asked for a better day for it.

It is a beautiful clear & crisp morning up here on the maunga!!! The forecast is for fine weather for the next few days. We have had over 20cm's of fresh snow in the last 24 hours! The Happy Valley Beginners Area will OPEN for Day 1 this winter from 9am & sledding from 10.30am. The Sky Waka will OPEN for sightseeing access only from 11am once de-icing is completed. Come & take a ride on New Zealand's biggest gondola to 2000 meters with stunning views out over the Tongariro National Park.

The Bruce Road is RESTRICTED to CHAINS or 4WDs from Whakapapa Village. Please take care in & around car parks as underfoot conditions are icy.
