Working with the seasons at Earth Stewards Organic Market Garden

There is a quiet shift that happens in the garden during June. As the days grow shorter and the crisp winter air settles in, our focus moves away from the fast-paced abundance of summer toward the patient, resilient crops that thrive in the cooler months.

Farming organically means listening to what the soil and the season want to give us. Right now, that means nurturing hearty winter greens, robust root veggies, and brassicas that actually taste sweeter after a touch of frost.

We are working alongside nature’s slower pace to ensure your winter tables are filled with fresh, nutrient-dense, locally grown food.

Many of you have seen some of the behind-the-scenes content from the farm, but for those who may not know, I’m Cay and have recently stepped into Linda’s role.

As I’ve learned more about Earth Stewards , I’ve developed a genuine passion for sharing the story behind what we do and highlighting the value of organic and biodynamic farming within our community.

Last night, Tayla and I had the opportunity to attend the Young Organic Growers Aotearoa event hosted by monavaleblueberriesltd . It was an incredible evening that brought together growers from across the region to connect, learn, and share experiences.

Events like these are a great reminder of the bigger picture. While our days are often filled with planting, harvesting, packing, and caring for the farm, it’s inspiring to hear the stories of others in our industry, the challenges they’ve faced, the opportunities they’ve created, and the resilience that continues to drive local food production forward.

We left feeling inspired, grateful to be part of such a passionate growing community, and excited about the future of sustainable food systems here in Aotearoa.

We’re uncovering and preparing our flower beds, creating pathways between them, and bringing this space to life one step at a time. Soon these beds will be bursting with colour, supporting pollinators and adding even more beauty to the farm.
