Kia Ora! It's Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week)
We're excited to join in and share some of our safety messages in Te Reo Māori throughout the week!

*update Monday - Kaiti Beach wood debris clean-up starts Wednesday. The wood will be taken off site for future disposal. Please take note of warning signs and keep away from heavy machinery operating.

The clean-up of the wood debris on our city beaches starts next week. Siteworx Civil Contractors will start from The Cut at Waikanae working their way down past Midway SLSC to Pacific Street.

We're in discussions with tangata whenua and communities about clearing wood debris at Uawa/Tolaga Bay and we hope to start work soon.

Because of the large volume of wood debris, the hours of operation will be longer and working around tides.

🛑 If you’re on these beaches over the next couple of months - please heed the warning signs and keep away from any heavy machinery operating.

Because the wood debris is a result of Cyclone Gabrielle – Government funding had been secured to help pay for the clean-up.

This is the start of a larger programme of removing woody debris in our river catchments too.

Roberts Tree Surgeon contractors start work on clearing debris under the 3 city bridges from Monday. They’ll be using a diver, a boat and a digger to remove some of the bigger trees.

🛑 For your safety, please take note of safety signs around the work sites.

We’re developing a Council position on woody debris on the region’s beaches and through this process have sought feedback from a number of agencies.
This will be discussed at Council meetings in coming months and will inform the long-term approach.

For more information on woody debris https://www.gdc.govt.nz/services/tairawhiti-road-to-recovery/woody-debris

Working collaboratively with the Regional Manager you will play a key role in supporting Eastern Region with the Gisborne/Tairāwhiti clubs; Ngati Porou, Tolaga Bay, Wainui, Waikanae, Midway to enhance member development, support club sustainability and help grow capability.

You will coordinate and manage key areas that support clubs and member development while providing supervision of the Gisborne/Tairāwhiti Paid Lifeguard service.
